We were members of Costco but found Makro to be more convenient for us. It's closer and membership is free. The products are much the same too.

I was a member for a couple of years and I think it's not worth it. You'd think if you buy a crate of something there'd be a discount but very often there's not. For example loo roll and kitchen roll was cheaper and better quality at Asda than at Costco even though you had to buy a massive quantity there which is a pain to store.

I got tired of trying to work out whether it was better value than the supermarket - especially when it usually wasn't!

I think that once you spend your £25 to join people feel obliged to visit regularly - which is where they make the money.

The other problem we had is that it's a trek for us whereas the supermarket is just round the corner - not very good for the pocket or the environment.

I am a costco member and it is good for certain things such as sugar, cans of pop, toilet rolls, biscuits and cleaning stuff they also have good dairy and frozen stuff. I don't really think that the electrical stuff is that cheap though and it does not have a big selection of stuff like Macro does.

  • We have been members of costco for ages. Meat and fish are great so are tins of things like chopped toms, custard etc. Also the photo department is dead cheap for digital prints. What is really good is when you have a problem they sort it out without any quibbling I have returned a laptop and a dyson (that was over 4 years old) and got a full refund. Try doing that anywhere else.
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • We bought a TV stand from Costco which was fantastic and really cheap.

We don't buy the grocery's there though as there is only two of us and the pack sizes are way too big. We'd end up throwing most of it.

Drinks are really cheap - cola and J20's we buy a lot of.

My boss paid for our membership so it makes it even better for us :)
