e-house a good investment?

Hi!
We just bought a house and are thinking of investing, maybe 2-3 thousand euros on hooking up internet, TV and phone lines in every room, as well as a touch screen system and built in speakers in all the main rooms, linked to a central PC containing tens of thousands of songs. the idea being that in any room in the house you can use the touch screens to play music in the room that you're in...
My question is this... if we spend the 3 thousand euros on the system, and leave it in the house when we sell, will it add money to the house, and will it add more money to the house than the cost of the equipment?
in the (maybe distant) future i think this will be something that a lot of people have, but if we sell in 2 or 3 years, will it create enough interest to add that extra bit of value?
cheers

IMHO it will improve the ease with which you can sell, but won't add much to the price you'll sell at, compared to the same house without itAnnual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery0

How do you know that this system wont be woefully out of date in 3 years. Look at the stranglehold of the Ipod and how quickly its come on. Now theres a growing backlash by ipod owners as many have so many problems with them etc, but theres an ipod post in the beemer dear
Personally, If you want it for you, go ahead, but others might not value it as you do. I certainly wouldnt IYSWIM:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

This Ive come to know...

i agree... but if the right person saw it for example...
i'm a bit of a geek and a music freek and the idea of this system makes me want to part with the money, and there are other geek music freeks out there...
but yeah, it's a very difficult decision0 -
dont get me wrong Im a massive music fan meself, but then I think the thing about us music fans often have favourite companies etc.
PLus whats on your "thousands upon thousands " PC might not appeal to me, but I couldnt relaly be bothered to delete your lot and put all my lot on, especially if I have my own PC to rig up IYSWIM:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Another vote for aiding the sale but not adding value.
Are you trying to justify the cost to your wife? :rotfl:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

well it's kind of a long story, but we know someone who is a cleaner (one of a team of cleaners) in a mansion in belgium. each year the owners go away for 6 weeks of holiday and our cleaner friend moves in to look after the house.
last year we were invited to view the house, swim in the pool, take a sauna, watch the 48 inch TV, drink the 3(!) bars dry of beer... but they something similar with touchscreens installed in the kitchen, it was so very very cool, we were both blown away.
now we've bought our first house we're wanting the same thing, but the idea is to leave it when we sell. if it's not going to add enough value then we'd just take it with us

Do you have any links for the system? It does sound like fun

well... there's actually nothing you can buy like this, i've been researching the possibilities for some time and i've found this site
http://www.lilliputweb.net/home.html
they make touch screens up to 12 inches for "bling" cars, but they have pc connectors and software so there would be no problem to install in a house.
then i need a special sound card that has multiple outputs and software to control which outputs are in use at any time, probably something from SoundBlaster, they have several...
to make it really good, i'd need a media player software that can play multiple songs and direct them to different outputs so you could have different songs in different rooms (this i haven't found yet, but i imagine it's out there because, well, it's the internet)
and thats it... the touchscreens have software that translates touches on the screen into "mouseclicks". the rest is pretty straightforward0
