Printer that doesn't clog

Options
I have been using Epson printers for a while and I have always been pleased with them. However, I have recently been able to start printing stuff at work, so I have not had to use my for a while. If I don't use it regularly it becomes clogged and is a pain/ expensive to clean the heads.

I am about due a new printer and I would like everyone's recommendations as to what would be a suitable replacement (I have heard the Canon Pixma series is good).

Yours in immense anticipation and excitement,

Steve

  • Hi there,
As an amateur photographer, I had the same concerns about printers.
My previous printer was a Bubble Jet (Canon) BJ5100, and it was OK when used regularly, but if not used for a few days it was terrible.
OK, so I needed a new one... I chose the Pixma iP4000, and have never looked back - it's awesome - never clogs up, takes cheap (£0.99) cartridges and gives amazing results.
The iP4000 is discont. but the iP4200 has replaced it, and I believe this is equally good.

i've been using HP printers for the last few years (well i say printers, its been 2) and i only use(d) them every few weeks... never had a problem.

the one i have in my room for my laptop which ive only had for about 3 months is the cheapest HP i could find the HP Deskjet 3940 which you can get from currys or dixons (currys.digital) for £40 :D i've used it about 5 times since buying it, and the only downside is that it can be a bit slow when printing... otherwise its great (especially for £40)

All HP printers (used to) have the print head incorporated in the ink cartridge, so that when the cartridge was replaced you got a new print head, which probably helped to prevent clogging.
This unfortunately also made the cartridges more expensive. However, some of the new HP printers now have a separate head and individual cartridges for the different colours, but they have a different way of supplying ink to the print head, so they may avoid the clogging problem.
The HP8250 gets a good rating in the magazines and is only about £55 at the moment.

I bought a cheapo ip2000 last year as I use a laser for my bulk print an dthis for the odd colour.

never jammed , never failed me , can sit for days andthen print fine. 99p cheapo cartridges and if I do have anything I need photo printed , i pop along to asda and do it hthere.

For a cheapo colour jobbie for some reasonable colour prints it fits the bill
