Currently we have a back boiler which is heated through a coal fire, open face coal fire. The boiler is connected to 8 radiators around the house but it's not very efficient.
Any ideas what sort of other heating systems i could look at?
We cannot get gas where we are.
Thanks

Air source heat pump, or ground source if you have the land. Look at all the threads on the site.0

If you do not want LPG or oil then an enclosed (glass fronted) solid fuel roomheater with back boiler will be a lot more efficient (~70%) than an open fire, only needs ash emptying once a day and can be left alight indefinately (weeks at a time). Something like
