Cleaning satin shoes

I have a feeling somebody here is going to suggest stardrops to me, but I was wondering how you clean satin shoes?

I bought a pair of shoes I am going to wear for my wedding from Next in their sale, the only problem is one heel is quite dirty, and it is covered in satin fabric. Does anybody know how to clean it?

I bought them because I thought even if it can't some off, it is a bit difficult to see when you are wearing them. They were half price and I asked for some extra off, but as they were already half price they would only give me an extra 10% which was £1.50, so if you can do maths you would be able to figure out my wedding shoes cost me £13.50 (but with a stain:rotfl: )

Mum used to clean her ballet pointes with lighter fuel. You'd be best trying it first on an inconspicuous area though if there is one, I've heard surgical spirit works too. If you cant find an inconspicuous area to test on,it's probably not worth trying it.

You can clean satin using vodka too. I've used it on a dry-clean only satin acetate dress with great success.

And if you can;t get it out you could dye them a darker colour to hide it.

My daughter had some ivory satin bridesmaid shoes last year that she ruined within about a minute of wearing them. I used a bit of fairy liquid on a sponge and wiped it in the direction of the fabric. Left them to dry and they came up like brand new.

I've done it a few times since as she wore them for parties, they were fine.

Thanks for all the tips. I went with the vodka because I had it handy (I hadn't read the fairy liquid tip yet). It worked a treat. The marks didn't disappear straight away, they seemed to go away as the vodka dried. I would advise anybody else that wants to try this not to bother rubbing the shoe, just leave it to dry first and see if that does the trick. I guess the surgical spirit and lighter fuel would both work on a similar principle.

Thanks for all the ealier poster. I have just cleaned grass and soil marks off purple satin shoes and after the first attempt almost all the marks have gone and even with lightly rubbing the satin with a cotton bud the fabric is not affected.
