  • Hello Folks
Well I have updated firefox and downloaded Google Earth.....But I can't open GE ! It's there in file manager next to My Docs, packages and trash. Actually there are 3 GE files google-earth, googleearth and GoogleEarthLinux.bin

Please could someone explain my next step or have I done something wrong ?

    Many Thanks

    Open a terminal window

Assuming the file is in your home directory (if not, you will have to navigate to the correct directory), type the following

    chmod +x GoogleEarthLinux.bin
    ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin

    That should start the installer

Actually, it sounds like you already have run the installer, yes?

In that case, you should just be able to double click googleearth and it should run. If not, open a terminal and type

    ./googleearth
  • Hello
If I double click googleearth or open a terminal and type ./googleearth all I get is a new window titled shell-/home/user/googleearth

Also in the new window is a load of computer jargon all starting with googleearth-bin; /lib/tls/libc.so.6;version'GLIBC-2.4' not found (required b

    Cheers

I've just been looking into it, and it doesn't look like it's particularly easy to get Google Earth to run on 7xx Eee PCs. Xandros in general seems to be a bit of a 'quirky' distro from what I've read, I've never used it so I'm not too familiar.

You could try asking about GE over at http://forum.eeeuser.com - they might be able to help more

You can try this, it'll mean running an old version of Google Earth but might be better than nothing:

Delete the google earth files you have currently (google-earth folder, googleearth and GoogleEarthLinux.bin)

    Download version 4.2 from here - http://dl.google.com/earth/client/GE4/release_4_2/GoogleEarthLinux.bin

    Install it as before

It should run, however will be very (perhaps unusably) slow. To solve this, download http://wiki.eeeuser.com/_media/howto:googleearth:googleearthspeedfix.zip and unzip it into the google-earth folder

  • Hello

Thanks again for your input...Think I'll try again tomorrow. All I wanted GE for was to show the father - in - law the new photo's that are now live.

Do you mean Google Streetview? Because you can access that through http://maps.google.co.uk which might be a lot more straightforward.

Google Earth will run on the 701, as I mentioned earlier.

It might be the default Linux install on the machine which is holding things back for you. It is quite old.
  • Hello

Yes thats just what I want........didn't think of using Googlemaps !

    Many Thanks again
