Hi all,
Please can anyone help me with these things? We moved to the country and there are so many of these tiny flies that we cannot open the windows and people avoid coming to our front door! We are becoming social lepers!
I opened the bathroom window while having a bath and have spent the past 10 minutes hoovering the ceiling. Euuuurrrghhhhh.
Any tips and tricks to dissuade them, kill them or let me know when they will die? I am completely grossed out.

do you have livestock in a field nearby your house as this can cause lots of flies to be around? or cabbage plants ect
you could spray fly repellant around outside of door and window frames see if that helps
try putting bunches of mint hanging inside your windows as these are a deterrent
make sure all bins, and fruit are kept well covered these flies love anything smelly!
they will go when the weather gets cooler or in autumn but are a hazzard of living in the countryside im afraid, i ikeep our ponies in a field by the kitchen window and we get quite a few flies from them horrid!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

Hi MickKnipfler,
I was wondering exactly the same thing, I did a search on Google and found this.

Hi,
Planting lavender helped a lot here - I've got a small bush in a window box at every window and huge bushes in the garden. It smells wonderful and there are definitely fewer flies, although the lavender does attract bees!
Good luck!0 -

We call them harvest flies, pesky little things that stick to your light coloured washing on the line as well.

Yup, we've got one too. OH had the mac in pieces last year trying to get it out. No joy though.
