You can't take a day off sick if you've got an order due,
If you've got certain types of illness that is exactly what you must do, by law - it is possible to get a loss of profit due to illness insurance policy
OK, I take your point, but the rest of my original post stands: any illness insurance would only cover that sick period's losses, and not the business you lose because the blushing bride tells all her engaged friends that she'll never use your business again because you let her down by being ill when you were meant to be doing her cake.

Agreed, and in reality most companies will turn a blind eye and let their staff work their shifts, and the average self employed person will have to be at deaths door before they will miss a shift due to food poisoning.

Besides, accident and sickness insurance is VERY expensive, especially for a startup with a tight budget.

Hi, We have decided in order to make a small income, we will convert our caravan into a basic mobile food van. We dont live in the UK anymore so setting one up wont have all the Restrictions that you face living in the UK. Which is good. But of course we will follow the very important Food hygiene steps. We will park alongside a road, where motorists can pull in hopefully! to taste our cooking? We will make our own burgers as has been suggested to us by another brit-expat here and add fried onions cause Bulgarians dont add any onions,(they skimp on everything and water down there tomato sauce) they like there food nearly cold and we are very supprised to note that even Resturants here serve "Warm food" and even "out of date food" and nobody bats an eyelid, which we think is really bad.
We will have to taylor our menu to meet the Bulgarians palate ! This should be fun and a challenge for us ex Brits! lol..so if anyone has any Recipie ideas, please email me! im looking for quick recipies to try out, maybe Asian food. curries might do well we arnt sure, we might use "flat bread" or Pitta bread with salad, sauces, sausages, im feeling hungry already just talking about it...Regards to you all.

Do make sure you find out what the Bulgarian restrictions are before you flout too many, and especially what you need to do about paying tax etc.
