Buying a near new car..advice please
I went yesterday to a local Ford dealer considering buying a near new s-max for the family. They gave me a reasonable price for my car as part exchange. I test drove the only s-max they had but did not like the low specification so they looked at their computer and found me a suitable one although slightly above my budget. They asked me to pay £100 to get the car for me next week (from another dealership) to test drive and after me asking they made it clear that they will refund the £100 if i dont like the car. On their forecourt I liked a Toyota verso (i think it they got as p/x from a customer) as it was near new and within my budget but they tried hard to push me towards the s-max. please i need help with the following questions:
1- if i decide next week not to buy from them, will I lose the £100?
2- they are trying to sell me loads of rubbish (GAP insurance for £400, diamondbrite treatment for £200) and I could find these cheaper on line but I am worried that they will lower the p/x quote if i dont buy these things from themor insist on buying the Toyota !!!
3- finance wise, their interest rate is a horrifying 14% while i could get a bank loan for %8 but I am sure they will turn funny if i dont take their finance option.
what is the best way to tackle this issue when i go next week?

The £100 thing - why not just go to the other dealer and test it there?
The rubbish - tell them no. If they start getting arsey, walk.
The finance - see above.0 -
Walk away from them, go to another dealer that you feel comfortable with.0

i dont know where is the other dealer as ford has a national data base for used cars..plus I am sure the other dealer will try the same tricks...they are all the same0

Sam1970 your the one in the driving seat your the one in control, you know a bank loan is going to be cheaper and you know you dont want the other things and if you did you know you can get them far cheaper so your no pushover, it's you that holds all the aces.0

Agreed, be positive, just tell them politely and firmly what you want and what you don't want.
You are buying the car, you are in the driving seat.0 -
Trouble is, the OP does sounds like a complete pushover. Might be best to let a man in the family do the talking.

I've placed a deposit on a car without seeing it before - but it was made very clear and written into the purchase order that I could refuse the sale and recieve my deposit back in full if the car was not 100% for me .
Not all dealers will agree to doing this though - and I wouldn't even consider it in those cases.0 -
Make sure you know exactly what spec colour(s) you want and phone around the ford dealers, there numbers are easy to get. Tell them the price you have been offered as a trade in and I am sure one or more will offer you a better deal.

As I said, the price they offered me for my car is very reasonable so I cant complain. Also the price for the s-max sounds ok (considering age and mileage) although I am not sure if i can negotiate any discount as the p/x will always be my weakness0

What car are you part-exchanging and what trade in price have you been offered?0
