Scottish Power prices for gas (prior to recently announced reduction) is about 3.1p - 3.6p plus standing charge or equivilent and VAT on their standard tariff paying monthly by DD (paying on receipt of bill is slightly more)

This is comparable to Ebico who charge 3.5p plus vat per kWh for gas.

Easy to get to about £2019 for gas consumption recorded based on an imperial meter; if it's actually a metric meter, the price should be about 1/3 of that.

This does not sound right at all. If previous gas statements have been based on accurate meter readings and at a sensible amount for the size of the property, then my first action would be to check the accuracy of the 6330 reading taken on 1st March.
