V5 issue date does not match DVLA
Hi all, I'm looking to buy an Audi A3 TDI privately - I've carried out an HPI check which has all come back fine (VRM/VIN match, no finance, no write offs etc) apart from the V5 document issue date which apparently doesn't match the DVLA information. The car did have a private number plate on it and the V5 issue date is one day after the original number plate was registered back to the car which seems to make sense. I've found a few other people online with this issue but there's been no replies to their queries about this bar one which suggested the problem may be down to a private plate transfer. I've asked for the V5 document reference so I can look up the V5 issue date on the V5 and find out what's going wrong, I've tried the first registered date for the car but that's not working either. Has anyone else come across this, what is the best way to proceed?
The other concern is that the car doesn't have an Audi service history (it's just over three years old, no warranty). The car is low mileage and has been serviced yearly, the seller also claims they've supplied the oil to ensure a decent quality is used. Personally I don't tend to use main dealers for my own cars as I trust the independent garage I use better but wondering I should be concerned about the lack of Audi service history given it can be fatal to the turbo particularly if the oil isn't handled properly.
Thanks for any advice,
John

If you have a concern about the registration document walk away, it's a buyers market at the moment.
I would also be wary of someone buying such an expensive new car and not having it serviced at a main dealer during the warranty period.0 -
Servicing is dodgy. I sold a 3.5yr old car a few months back with no service history.
The guy asked and I told him the car had been serviced once a year by my mate who was a mechanic.
In reality, the car got a mini service by my mate once in they 3.5yrs / 36000 miles.
Don't believe anything you are told, trust no one

Although you don’t need to use main dealers to keep the warranty valid you do need to have a formal record of equivalent servicing being done.
If they don’t have this on a car that is this young I’d be tempted to walk, there are plenty of others out there0 -
Unfortunately where I live there's very few cars to choose from (North of Scotland) and there's no other cars like this one for sale in Britain as it's a good spec and a low mileage. I've phoned HPI who are going to contact the DVLA and get back to me this week hopefully (max five working days), they checked the records and mentioned the private plate was probably the reason for the discrepancy. Based on those two issues I'm thinking of offering to buy the car pending the results of the HPI check.
I'm not sure what to think about the service history, the car does appear to be well looked after and the seller specifically mentioned ensuring the correct grade of oil had been used for the service.

The car does have a stamped service history recording the mileage and work done for each service which appears to have been carried out at the correct times it's just it isn't with Audi obviously. The car is now out of warranty so that aspect doesn't matter so much (I realise there may be issues which need goodwill) but obviously if the car has been mistreated it could mean serious bills down the line.

Hope you're proud of that. In fact, I hope someone rips you off so you know what it's like.0 -
So basically you're a lying git who's just ripped off a buyer by telling tales about his purchase which are untrue.
Hope you're proud of that. In fact, I hope someone rips you off so you know what it's like.
If that's what you think then yes.
The guy got a bargain - if I wanted to rip him off then I would have falsified the service book - he got a service book with no entries.
He was told when to next service the car.

Well it's a non-issue now anyway as my hesitation has cost me the car...0

Unlucky, but cars are like tarts - there will be another along in a minute.

You lied to him about the service history of the car:The guy asked and I told him the car had been serviced once a year by my mate who was a mechanic.

The buyer believed and trusted you, but you betrayed that trust by telling him a lie in order to help persuade him to part with his money.
"The guy got a bargain" - he didn't buy what you led him to believe he was buying.
People like you give genuine and honest private sellers a bad name.0
