Help with World Jamboree fundraising

Options
We are 5 members of a Scout Group trying to raise money to go to the World Scout Jamboree next year. We have got to raise £1300 each to be able to go. This money not only funds us but also helps to enable scouts and guides from 215 other countries to go too. It will be an awesome experience but we desparately need ideas on how to raise the money. Please can you help?

  • DD has just gone to India with Guides. She raised £1,200 with sponsorship,(dressed as a christmas fairy) card making ,cake sales, a disco for the brownies and a quiz or two. The group of 14 that went raised nearly 2,000 by bag packing at Sainsbury (on three seperate days). If you also give people value and a good time then they will keep supporting your events.

I went to a Jamboree years ago. We raised money buy doing car boot sales by the unit donating things to us.... various sponsored events... Raffles with prizes donated by local companies. We also wrote to the larger companies for donations.
I agree that bag packing is by far the best fundraiser and the easiest way to make money.
    Good luck
  • our unit is trying 2 raise money for a special camp and we decided that the best way 2 ensure that we were supported for our events was 2 get the local paper involved :T we got them 2 do a big article with why we were raising money what events we were going 2 do who 2 contact if they wanted more information or if they could offer any help or donations. we got a really good reponse  and it also helped ensure that when we announce the events later people already know bout them and will hopefully mean we get lots of support:j hope this helps.

Sorry to shoot you down a little but the world jamboree is a rip off. Scouts from the uk have to pay for their own trip and also raise money so that scouts from less well of countries can attend by paying for their trip.

I dont know about your group but money is always tight, and the constant fund raising for your own group to buy new tents or to subsidise another trip for your own group can be fun but asking for money from the same people over an over again isnt fair. Nevermind asking for money to send some other poor group to the jamboree.

Dont go asking your groups pearents to be dipping in their pockets again get the kids packing bags in the local supermarkets arrange it with the local supermarkets then get the papers involved tell them what your doing and where you will be. Car washing is good too again tell the paper your doing it to boost people comming.

Afraid I have to disagree with you. I went to Thailand three years ago as a leader and I will be going again next year.
I have seen first hand the effect this celebration has on ALL the young people and adults who attend. It is the most positive, life affirming experience, one can have, and every young person that went with us was proud to support our country, and that they raised money to help those less privaledged to attend.

I will agree with you that the young people must not ask their parents to put their hands in their pockets to pay, that is not what it's about. The money needs to raised by lots of hard work.......

    So Jamboree fundraiser.........

Bag Packs in super markets are a very good fundraiser. Get your group to help, the more tills you fill the more money you get. Split the money between your group and yourselves. Do it around christmas (ie early december not too late) and easter and bank holidays. (surprigingly busy then)

Car washes again in the local supermarket etc. One that the five of you could do and keep all the money without splitting it with group.

    Stalls at xmas/craft fairs etc.

PM me if I can help with anything else

I'm heading off for a Jamboree in Holland with the Guides on saturday. We had to fundraise and raised quite a bit of money by selling quiz sheets and table top sales. Another big earner was the local charity car park. Find out if there is one in your area. Ours was at the local college and people pay £1 each to park there on a saturday. We had to pay a nominal amount to the college (think it was about £30.00). We made £750 profit from 8.30 - about 4pm. The weather wasn't very nice and you have to find people willing to stand there for a couple of hours in uniform but definitely worth while.

    made 1st,2nd,3rd prices of £50, £10 and £5, making £300
when all the dates had been sold, the dates (on paper) where placed in a hat and the winning tickets drawn out (by someone who hadnt entered, ie local priest etc)

whilst my daughter didnt do a whole year, she did 125 days, with £25 as the top prize

Have you tried to apply for the bursary grant?

Benny 24 I didnt say hat it wasnt a wonderfull thing to take place I have been to many Jamboree's and they are really good fun both as an scout and a leader.
The bit that I dont like is the cost originally £1000 per person it has dropped to £895 and like I said before part of that goes toward funding people from less well off countries to go to the Jamboree, Taken from one of the scout association documents
The UK falls within the highest category payers. This
higher cost then offsets the fee paid by those who attend from less well-off countries.
Maybe the guys running the Jamboree dont realise that not all people in the UK are loaded and dont mind spending £895 for one of their kids to go on holiday for a few weeks. If they have another child they cant leave that one out so they feel they need to spend on that one. I just think the whole way they have gone about it is wrong they should have set a price then asked groups or individualls to help raise additional funds to allow others to go as an option, I know some would have declined but I know that our group would be going if the extra was an option. It was parents that decided not to take part and that was the reason. Ohh and I didnt do the presentation it was someone else.

I hope you have a good time.
