Coach I cancelled turned up. Help
My friend had a birthday this week and I was asked to find a coach to take 25 of us out for the evening. I got various quotes and finally settled on a company that provided a minibus for 16 of us and a taxi for the other 6 ( as the numbers had dropped ). I had booked another company originally but called them to cancel earlier this week as they were more expensive than the alternative. However when we met up at the pub last night the original coach company turned up aswell. I had not arrived at that point and the birthday girl rang to ask what was going on and I confirmed I had called on Tuesday and cancelled the coach. When I arrived the original coach was leaving but I then got a text message to ask me to call the coach company. When I called the man said I had not cancelled and wants a payment of £100.00 for his driver's wages. Now I was not asked for a deposit at any point and am wondering where I stand re payment. Can they force me to pay?

Can you provide evidence you at least made the call on Tuesday? From an itemised phone bill for example. Can you remember who you spoke to? What was said? Did they write to confirm the booking, did that contain any information about cancelling?0

I told him I had phoned on Tuesday and spoke to a man to cancel. He said that man was him and that I had just confirmed I wanted a bus for 16 ( which is odd as there were 22 of us) He said all there calls are recorded and I could listen to them if I wanted to. I did not pay any deposit nor receive any confirmation in writing. Neither was I quoted any terms and conditions re cancelling. I have looked at their website and there are no details about any of this on there. I am wondering if I spoke to someone else in his office ( say a driver ) who did not pass on the message0 -
If you have records of the two phone calls, and the phone call you made for the second coach, I don't think you'd have any trouble arguing to case to a magistrate.
So if the above is the case, tell him to tidy his office, and whistle.0 -

The calls were all made on my mobile so will show on my bill. I will talk to Orange today and see if they can let me have details of calls made to those numbers.0 -

I wondered that myself. The driver would have started at 8.00 and finished about 4.00am. As it was he probably started at 8.00 and was home by 10.00p.m. I think someone in his office messed up and he is trying to recover his costs.0 -

I think the £100 would be payment for the drivers wages and fuel costs used to position the coach from their base to the pick up point. Coaches only do about 12-14mpg.
But this would only apply if you hadn't cancelled. The man without a signature.0 -

Yes that is probably what he means. He does not have my full name or address just a phone number anyway. I will see what happens tommorow0 -
let him try to sue you for the money.0

What so he booked a coach on the strength of a mobile phone call with no address and full name ? Dont even worry about it if he phones up asking for his money say sorry mate you must have the wrong number or just tell him you cancelled if he didnt get the message or forgot thats his problem not yours he doesnt have a leg to stand on.0
