broadband options: talk talk/orange

Hi everyone,

Ok, I was thinking about using either of the deals:

1. Talk Talk Option 3 and their marketed 'free broadband' or,

2. Orange monthly tariff with also marketed 'free broadband'.

From reading on here I notice lots of people don't rate either company - especially orange. The only thing that puts me off the orange option is the 18month contract. Though maybe the contract can be altered after 6 months?

Ultimately I need a new mobile and I will still need broadband - hence the orange deal would have been pretty good.

If I avoided orange, and went with talk talk, I'd just get a different mobile tariff. Maybe the t-mobile flext.

I'm just looking for a hassle free deal on broadband. For the sake of things I'll end up sticking with broadband as I'm put off by everyone's comments on how bad every other company is! Everyone seems to have problems with one company or another.

Of course people are more likely to warn others of their bad experiences, but I'd like to hear the positive ones too :D

What do others do? Who do you use and what's the experiences so far?

Sorry it's such a popular question too, though I am sure people are just as confuzzled as me.

    Hi,

I ordered Orange Broadband for my parents about a month ago, the livebox arrived about two weeks after I placed the order. The line took a while to be activated.

Once it was activated I started to set it up, the first problem I incountered as that they had sent me an incorrect username and password in the introduction. A 35 minute call to the help number fixed this (30 minutes on hold, 5 minutes talking to somebody).

NOw that it has been set up it is OK, the surfing is fine, email is fine for a basic surfing package.

One thing to note is that they will not let you send email via your own SMTP server, you have to use the Wannadoo one.

i would avoid any 'free' broadband services for a good year to 18 months until each company thats offering 'free' broadband gets their infrastructure up & running properly. A prime example of someone who hasn't is Talk Talk

Hi.As Martin recommends-Talk Talk package is hard to beat for price but just hope that their customer service will improve!.Im with Orange for broadband only at £14.99 per month.Im pretty happy with them and can always seem to get their customer service with little waiting. The bb and mobile deal looks good if you use a mobile quite a lot which i dont...........Neil

    Thanks for the responses guys!

I do agree with the companies offering 'free' broadband having poor infrastructures...or certainly not capable enough of meeting the demand. It's a shame! grrr

The only thing putting me off orange is the 18month contract.

I do need a mobile on contract really. I was reluctant to pay anything over £25, though it's worth paying a £30 tariff with broadband thrown in too. On the contracts that qualify they trow in a bundle of calls and msgs too - which sounds cool.

To be honest its a bit of a mis-informed thing, theres no 'free' broadband, you incur a cost somewhere along the line!
