Hello,

Being as it's Mothers Day tomorrow. I tried to pick something last minute up and pay for it with a five pound note. Apparently they won't accept it because its 'OLD'?

Anyone else had any experiance with this..

Was it an actual 'OLD' 5 pound note though that you was trying to use?

Well perhaps I misunderstood this, but I came back and 'Googled' new five pound notes. Just to see if there were new brands out or something - which there doesn't appear to be.

Sure the note was a bit tatty and tathered, but not many five pound notes are in perfect nik these days.

There's a space in the URL.
To young-a-member to post links yet.

If it's good enough for another shop to hand it out to me.. then. Yeah. :)

That would be why then... the current five pound notes have Elizabeth Fry on the back.
Shops shouldn't be accepted th 'old' George Stephenson notes. You can swap it for a current fiver at a bank.

That note has been withdrawn and ceased to be legal tender in 2003.
The link below is to the Bank of England website, it has all sorts of information about current and withdrawn notes.
