Just back from holiday with the usual cds bought in resort (hotel and pub)which have been burnt on cd-r and wanted to take the best from them and put them on one disc and also make up cds for the kids some from the 3 discs, but wmp will only play from the disc, they are .cda files and i have tried and copied onto hard drive so i can select which tracks but they wont play it just comes up with the media guide selection and the last mp3 from the cd in the drive
i have other mp3s on the pc and they play fine.
Does anyone know what could be the problem? My initial thought was maybe copywrite but i have bought them in the past and this has never been the case so now wondering what else it could be, any thoughts please? as i know these discs are more delicate than shop bought cds and really would like back up before the kids trash them.

sounds like you need to rip the music to either mp3 or wma. what you are doing is only copying the track listings. windows media player can convert the cds for you."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Try downloading Itunes. Open the cd in itunes and click import.
Make sure you change the import settings in preferences to make it mp3 at 192kbps rather than aac[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Although if you have wmp you can rip to mp3 by going to tools>options>rip music> format and choose mp3 and select the quality setting you want.

Itunes is much better though[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Each to their own, my mp3 player isn't an ipod so itunes is pretty much useless for that. I use wmp for all my media but I do use itunes for subscribing to podcasts as it is very easy to use."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I got an ipod simply because of itunes
And now i've given the ipod to my girlfriend so she's on it too!
It doesn't get better than itunes ease of use wise![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

I agree, obviously if I had an ipod then I'd just use itunes but itunes doesn't recognize my mp3 player, and the player does play wma files as well. WMP can be a hassle at times, especially when trying to buy music, so many rubbish shops to choose from"She is quite the oddball. Track down a program called XPY, its quite techy but there is an option in there somewhere to force WMP to rip tracks as MP3's0
