Same here :( I thought I was doing well keeping to around £40 a week. It doesnt help that hubby like meat and 3 veg every night, and woe betide me if I served him sausages at any time other then breakfast. Looks like Im going to have to have a good read of these forums and see where I can make savings

If you find anything I can do to save even more money then please let me know! :)
  • I would like to join in too please! Can |I just ask though is the £160 just for food, or does it include, toiletries, soap powder, cleaning products etc???

cant join this one unless someone has a spare 60 quid floating around - I couldn't spend £160 on food in a month;)
I could do a fantasy shopping list like the food equivalent of fantasy football...
Ive just done tesco shop to top up cupboards and freezer, there were a few cheap fresh fruit + veg too, and including trainer pants and toothpaste, toilet paper, kitchen roll etc 56 quid it will last at least 3 weeks with maybe 5 to 10 on fruit and veg.(per week for that, forgot to add, hence the edit)
Got a sack of onions today for £1.90 in a local grocers.

Sarah, the point is its your own personal challenge that matters. If your £50 spent today lasts you 3 weeks then you are around about your target figure.

This sounds really great, I won't be joining just yet. But will be watching with a very keen eye as Caterina mentioned too.

I love the ideas that you come up with, as they help us all.;)

I think sometimes we are a bit worried what other people may think, of how much we spend on shopping and other things. So its nice to see ideas out in the open and I'm sure it helps some of us not feel too worried or shy. ((I'm not sure if these are the right words to use but hope you get my meaning.))

Everyone's ideas helps one of us in someway, so its nice for you to share with us. Thank You - you lot and Good Luck.:)

SSaver - I know you've posted before about needing trainer pants at night. Have you tried Huggies Convertables? They are like a trainer pant but you can also pull them at the side if you wish (you don't have to) like a nappy. I only bought them once cos daughter is still in nappies and i found the sides difficult to get on using as a nappy but i think they'd be fine using as trainer pants. I'm sure they were cheaper than buying the pull-ups.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Can I join in as well please? I would like to reduce my weekly bill to £30 from £40. Have to empty very old chest freezer (very scary, have no idea what is at the bottom of the thing!) so meals will be a bit of an adventure from now on. I know there are a lot of frozen gooseberries in there though. Wonder if there is a gooseberry thread somewhere? I have to feed 2 adults and occasionally 1 "boomeranging" (she comes home often) student daughter. We also buy her some groceries to take back with her. After reading a few threads on here I now quite happily buy the value range products and will try to visit the market more often. I am also managing to save an extra days money by making use of the leftovers and now give a days money every week to Oxfam.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
