What I wish I'd known

Hi

thought I'd start a thread we could all pool our mistakes-filled experience to help others.

I'll start...

The last few weeks has been vveeeeerrry exppensive in late fees and bank charges

I wish I'd known not to shut down all my DDs 2 days before the payment date.
Mortage charged me 30 quid
close premium finance 40 quid

I wish I'd known my lloyds personal loans would just get siphoned out of my lloyds account and me put into unplanned overdraft. cost = 140 quid and a week from hell

Talk about naive!

Anyone else - what do you wish you'd known?

I wish I had known when I was 18 years old and first got into debt that it was a really stupid bloody idea and I would still be paying it back when I was nearly 30!

How has it taken me 12 years to realise that all you have to do is live within your means?

I had the idea that people would try to throw jobs at me when I graduate. Unfortunately that was not the case and I'm now in UK and all. I'm originally from Finland, but followed my wife to UK. Good choice, if you don't care of work really. My wife is more important though.

I wish I'd known that all the expensive insurances/assurances/PPIs I was paying for would be worthless when I became ill, due to "pre-existing condition, condition not covered etc etc" and had instead put the money in a savings account...

  • I wish I'd known not to depend on a job, because when you get made redundant and don't have any savings.....
