Help with laptop please windows not loading

Hi

Lap top was working fine this morning and now when i switch it on i get the little blue line at bottom saying windows resuming and then nothing , just a black screen.
i havent made any changes so dont know whats up
i switched it off and left it for a while but same again, using desk top at mo
can somebody help please ? laptop is vista on a Dell inspiron

    Not sure what the problem will be... could be any number of things, but the first thing to try is booting up in Safe Mode. This should reduce the number of device drivers etc that Windows loads to the bare minimum, and it may be that it will then start properly.

    IIRC it's usually F8 that you press during the Boot sequence to get into Safe Mode. See if that helps.
  • Can you press and hold down the power button for 10 - 15 seconds? Release it. Leave it 10 - 15 seconds then press again like you normally would to turn it on.

    Thanks david done this and still nothing, mouse pointer is on the screen but still nothing and cannot use pointer because nothing displays to point it at !

    Did the 'mouse pointer' disappear when you held the power button down?

    yes and lap top powered off ,also whilst trying to reboot by holding down f8 key i get a beebing noice then nothing happens except the usual , windows is resuming then blank screen with mouse pointer in middle !

    Regarding the F8, you need to press it at the right time, normally when the first logo appears on screen from boot up, hold it down then.

    wait...i now have the windows error recovery page what option shall i choose safe mode etc ? dont know the other options because i was to late and its disapeared now Grrrrr i will try and get that back if i do what option shall i choose

    only option i got there was launch start up repair so i took that one iam waiting now to see what happens next

  • I'm tempted to say burn a copy of Ubuntu and delete c:\hiberfil.sys.

    Any techies agree?
