new to all this chat but only just read your plea! .The best advice my midwife gave me on our first ' I wish every new mum could have a 2nd baby first as they wouldn't panic half as much' . just let the baby lead you you both are learning as you go along
Good luck and enjoy every minute cos the years fly by0 -
i sat here wondering why you didnt want your baby on the 11th .. then realised you mabey refering to the twin towers etc.. mabey if its born on the 11th you can think that its nice mabey to have a baby on that day as the saying goes.. one life leaves this world another comes in .. i was given this as a poem when i was pregnant because my mum was dying of cancer. in a funny sort of way it helpedThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -
Best bit of advice I was given when my daugher was very small and I was worrying about everything was that the baby wouldn't remember if I made a mistake...
Very true, unfortunately as a 13 year old now she remembers every little mistake

All of the above is great advice and getting people who visit to help is priceless. Even though it is your first real home and I am sure you want it to look its best, get your visitors to make the tea, hoover etc. Don't think you can do everything .. people offer help expecting it to be taken up. Visit the local mother and baby group as these are often good places to find second hand goods and ideas for babies. My son who is 9 months old was only in some of his cloths for a few weeks and wore them twice, also toys such as play mats with dangly toys are great when they are first born as they spend hours looking up at them.
Black and white picture books are good for the baby and can be bought to place around the cot, alternative version which was just as good for me, print pictures of the internet from your clip art file.
Good Luck for the 11th!0 -
Top advice guys - thanks for all your help so far....
So anyway, a few weeks on and a quick update.
The ISA's are now open - ones filled up with £3k the other with £1k - theres also £1k in our instant access savings for when we pay the deposit in our rented flat.
The tenants have just moved out of the house last friday. Good news today was that the landlord will fully redecorate the place before we move in but bad news is we only have 3 weeks b4 baby is due so i hope it gets sorted soon!
Pay day is on Friday for both of us - woo hoo!!! so thats another £1k ish straight into the ISA so i'm happy about that.
I've also applied for an MBNA platinum card so i can do a super balance transfer and make money - that'll go towards living costs.
My parents are still driving me bonkers about moving out (you see Indian Parents just NEVER let go of their kids - you wouldnt expect a 25 year old married bloke to find it so hard to move out would you???
)
Been to IKEA to buy cheap basics for the house too!
All in all guys and gals its been a fairly smooth ride - oh yeah, the ante-natal classes were great (gas and air?? awesome!!)
Anyway - please keep yr advice coming - its just so useful!!!
I'll let u know how we get on. ;D ;D ;D
Many thanks in advance

Good luck Neil to you and your Mrs!
I have two little un's myself (2.5yrs and 15 months) and just want to echo the advice and pointers given above.
One other thing... Bounty packs, you should get one at the hospital (if you are having a hospital birth) make sure you get it because it contains lots of freebies and info on Child Benefit and Tax Credits. They also have extra Bounty packs at weaning stage and toddler stage.
Second hand stuff is a must especially as they wear clothes for such a short space of time. (Although I know how nice it is to have a few brand new items for your new bubba). Also if people want to give presents ask if they can buy clothes in different sizes ie 3-6 months 6-12 months, otherwise you end up with lots of 0-3 months and nowt else!
All the best

No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
and if you want to give anyone whos having a baby a present, my best one was a basket of toiletries for me, was nice and made me feel special, and now i do it for all my friends. babys get way too much anyway.
if you ask at the hospital, they usually let you keep the gown the baby first wears, i have mine from all three, is a nice keepsake (mind you i have all there umbilical cord clips too.0
