Chopping conifer down

Someone else mentioned shortening the tree to stop damage but I would rather get rid completely and let insurance deal with the fallout. What do you guys think?
What do you mean by letting insurance deal with the fallout .....? If the tree is currently causing damage, why isn't the tree being dealt with as an insurance claim?
My concern would be that if you attempt to remedy a problem, but then make it worse, you may give the insurance company a reason to refuse the claim.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

Be very careful about cutting a large conifer (or any tree) which is close to a building and causing damage.
If it is cut down in one go, the subsequent raise in ground water levels can upset the ground stability and cause foundation movement.
Always reduce large trees in stages by either pollarding, or in the case of conifers reducing the height in two or three stages with 4-6 month periods in between
Grind the stump below ground and the roots will die off over time. When the floor is repaired, the roots can be removed0 -
ignore my idea, with the tree and roots that close to the house it will do some damage.0

I had a roof height hedge of conifers (24 trees) cut down to stumps just above ground level by some proper tree surgeons. Conifers just do not regrow from stumps, the roots will just start the long process of rotting.
I also had a huge slow growing 2 storey conifer cut down close to the house, got a stump grinder man in, his machine on wheels could fit through a normal garden gate width and chewed up the stump to well below ground level so we can pave over. Cost £60 well worth it.0
