Getting the right deal from Orange

Okay I originally posted this in the 'Orange Retentions' thread but as that has now been closed I decided to make a new topic as I still need some advice!

I've been with Orange for 18 months (on the Canary 30 plan) and in that time I have had bills of up to £90 so I should imagine my average bill is well over the standard plan.

My contract is up next month and I know exactly what I want...the only question is how to get it!

This is what I'm after...

Basically; I want a Blackberry Bold 9700, 900mins, Unlimited texts, Unlimited Blackberry and Unlimited Internet for £25 per month.

Now, that may sound like a lot to ask but thanks to a couple of posters in the 'Blackberry deals' thread I know it's possible to get on an Orange 24 month contract.

As far as I know they were classed as 'new customers' for that deal so for me, as an 'above-average' current customer, it should be simple enough to get that deal or an even better one...right?

So what I ask of you, MSE Forums, is some advice on how to make sure I get this deal when I phone them up!

All advice greatly appreciated...

    1. Look for good deals on other networks that meet your requirments, or get as close as possible.
    2. Ask orange to meet your expectations, if they refuse, say you'll leave.
    3. They'll send a letter asking you to call up if there's anything they can do to keep you.
    4. They'll either meet or not meet your needs, if they don't, you know they can't and then should adjust your expectations.
    5. Also consider going through sites like e2save, phoneboxmobiles etc etc, always call, don't order on the net.
Here is a good site for comparing tariffs

Here is a link to an article from this site that advises the best way to get a good deal and the best sites for comparing tariffs.

    Hopefully this will be helpful

Just had a quick check on mobilephonechecker for you and there are a few deals that already almost meet what you want....

All at least 900 mins with unlimited (3000) texts, allon e2saves website.

£40 pm, with £180 cashback, comes to £30 pm
£40 pm, with £160 cashback comes to £31 pm, this is with 1200mins
    £35 pm, £19.99 for phone.

see here for e2save bb9700 deals

Thanks for all your help daggy, you've gone over and above the call of duty!

I'm probably going to phone them up later today or tomorrow as I'm keen to tie up this new contract ASAP. I know I can get almost what I need from T-Mobile for £30pm so hopefully Orange will be open to negotiation.

My contract has ended so rang retentions as i wanted similar. They offered Blackberry Bold 9700, 200mins, Unlimited texts, Unlimited Blackberry and Unlimited Internet for £25 per month but the phone would be £100

Popped in the local orange shop and they could offer free phone for £35 but would be treated as new customer or £149 for the phone and £30 pm.

My average bill is about £25 so probably won't get as good as offer......

    No problem, mate :)

I tihnk you should be fine, it makes no sense for them to lose a good customer for the sake of a small discount.

Also, if you don't get what you want first time, just hang up and then ring up again, I've always found that it matters who you get through to.

Let me know how it goes.

Well the £25 pm contract as a standard new customer tariff, but the free BB net is a good free addition....

Find out what nad you are in, as orange grade their upgrade customers from band 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest... higher you are, thge more bargaining power you have.

If orange wont offer you it, try a few of the external sites, e2 save, phoneboxmobiles, etc etc always call them and bargain for a good offer.

    Thanks Daggy

Have been looking around and e2save have got Orange Panther £30 Blackberry Data (24mths) 600 mins & Unlimited texts with free phone. There is a cash redemption so the eventual cost is 22.50 a month which doesnt seem too bad

If ity was me, I'd push for 18 months, but that just because I have a 24 month phobia :P

If it's an upgrade, make sure you barter for a slightly better deal than what is advertised.

Thought i would give them another ring this afternoon and it was worth it! Stayed on same plan (£25 a month) for 18 months with 200 mins (happy with that as i don't use much), unlimited texts, unlimited emails, BIS and a free bold 9700. So am happy with that lot. Off goes the nokia to mobile recycler next week and sorted. Thanks for the advice on ringing them again....
