Good advice from Koolkatsaffi! Good luck with your hearing aid Alizarin!

I've kept quiet, because I didn't want to scare you...I'm actually allergic to every type of ear moulds. I also suffered with build up in the tubes and ended up at ENT 3 times a week for months to have the suction thingy! It's bliss when they do that though!

I ended up having to have Bahas, which are ok but at the moment I don't think they're as clear as conventional digital hearing aids. Mine are both in for repair as we speak, but there is a possiblity of an upgrade with different functions including a music mode!

I also have no sense of sound direction and am continually embarrassed with song lyrics I thought I had heard!

Oh and don't forget, you can take the hearing aid out, if sound gets too much for you!
  • thanks for that. it !!!!es me off because they said dig hearing aids are better than old type but i heard things better with old hearing aid . my partner gets frustrated as she talking to me and i dont hear. audiologists seem to think that everythings fine once they give you a new digi hearing aid been back twice since has it done 2 yrs ago but gave up lol. i prefer lip reading myself and using subs when watching tv. i get impression audiologists dont really understand deaf peoples problems enough

Oh istanbul, I feel your pain!

I have to go to two separate hospital regarding my hearing. My local one won't listen to my woes because I can't wear their hearing aids anymore, yet I still have to go there for hearing tests and assessments. My Baha hospital is 30 miles away and they're not too bothered about my hearing problems because they say that my local hospital should be sorting it out!

I still have to rely on subtitles and still miss what's being said when in conversation!

So, very sorry I don't have any answers, but I do sympathise!

And I say again, lipreading classes ...

They won't improve your hearing, they might not even do very much for your lipreading skills, but being in a group of people who really understand your problems, AND who might just have some suggestions for resolving them - priceless!

    Hi istanbul
.....when some ones either at side or just behind me i have problems hearing them as anyone else had this problem? audiologist thought i was joking.....

Your audiologist should have more sense. In two respects. Firstly, from a personal perspective, there is nothing remotely funny about heaing loss. Secondly, from a professional angle, even an audiologist withe the most basic training will have been taught that NHS digital hearing aids (ie. all NHS supplied aids since 2003) have Directional Microphones. As koolkatsaffi suggests, this type of arrangement is designed to minimise noise coming from behind you on to the side of you, and also to focus more in the general direction you are facing.

Solution = ask your audiologist to alter the directional settings on your aids. It will be possible to modify the "fixed directionality" and "adaptive directionality" of the aids to suit your personal needs better. This can be done on the computer in a jiffy.

If you would really like the aids to act more like the older analogue types, you can ask the audiologist to change the "compression" settings to make the aids more "linear". (No need to go into the technicals - even a pre-qualified audiologist will be able to press the correct series of buttons on the computer). You may well find that simply reducing the "compression", without actually removing it altogether, makes a significant difference.

Any one else on here have deaf little ones ??

:hello: Our little 2yo boy has been wearing aids for almost a year now, he has clear moulds and bright blue aids ;) He was diagnosed with ANSD shortly after coming home, and initially it was thought that he was severely if not profoundly deaf; he has an annoying habit of refusing to co-operate with the VRA tests :rotfl: However as time has progressed, he has started to show some reaction to normal-volume sound at higher frequencies, so hopefully the testing will now be more towards determining what he can hear and what needs re-pitching.

I was very young at the time..Gallagher and Lyle - When My Bottom's Asleep.

I've just watched it on youtube and I still say I'm right!
  • Another song lyric misheard was...

Dexy's Midnight Runners -'Gino' - the line "Oh Gino"...

For ages I thought it was "Hold your nose"...:rotfl:
