Thanks for all the responses.
I did get my mum to join this site, and I forced her to post in the debt-free wannabe board, but unfortunately she never logged back in to check the responses (even though I printed them out for her).
I know I need to stop bailing her out, but it's so hard to say no and watch someone you love get depressed as a result of money. I sat down and worked out all of her debt problems with her, suggested she get a 0% credit card and use that for essentials, that way her overdraft will come down and she wont pay as much interest. She did use it for essentials such as food etc, but ended up spending £1500 (maxed limit) in 4 weeks as she ''had'' to get christmas presents and an expensive mirror she liked. I felt terrible as I was the one who suggested and helped her get the card, and she was now in more debt.
I know I'm in a very fortunate situation at the moment and have a high disposable income. I'm trying to save as much as I can for university/future, however I'm off to Africa in July for a month which is costing quite a bit, but I want to get it in before university.
Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to have to be more assertive and not help her, to help her (if that makes sense).
Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers (for Sunday, of course)

As you have already had a chance to look through the debt free wannabe board, you will know that if the lightbulb moment hasn't happened, there really isn't a whole lot you can do.
Is there another family member you can confide it? Without your extra cash your mum (and brother) need to sort themselves out, but it usually seems easier to pretend mothing is wrong.
And don't feel guilty, you are soon going to need every penny you have to get through uni (I had one friend who ran out of money and had to eat muselie for every meal for a week; he ran out of milk mid-week too:D). The best thing you can do for your family is to ensure you can financially support yourself, and concentrate on making a life for yourself.0
