The advantage of buying from a 'bricks and mortar' shop and not from the internet.

Just an update (in case anyone is interested) - after a couple of phone calls to Tesco, they still had not received the DVD player and asked me to fax a copy of the proof of collection.
A couple of weeks after that I got a refund on my credit card.
So, any suggestions for a good reasonable priced DVD recorder? I know Panasonics are good but the cheapest is at least twice the price of the Samsung (but I suppose it might work properly).
