Why not replace the switch? Simple job for the average DIYer. Google the machine for the relevant switch.

There,s a surprising amount of info on repairs to be found on youtube etc.
We have a dyson DCO4 that needs a clutch replacement (allowing brush to automatcally turn off for hard floors/stairs). Took it to my local well respected appliance repairer who said they no longer do this repair as it is too fiddley and would cost £90-100 to send it away for repair - suggested I'd be better off buying a new one.

Just before going out to buy a new one I thought I'd do a quick check on-line for repairs and found several step by step videos of exactly this repair on my machine and it only takes 10 minutes. Did a search for the part and found it at espares. It's a genuine new Dyson part complete with belts and cost £24 delivered. I'm still waiting for it to arrive and fit it but hopefully this will save me the expense of a new hoover for some time.

Save up get a Dyson even a reconditioned one,,,I have also gone down the economy bagless cylinder route and wish we'd done anything but. Two Argos value ones broke almost immediately and were such a hassle to get replaced only for the same thing to happen. The Hoover Alyx 2000w is our current model and is very poor, it's easier to use a dustpan and brush.
  • Ill second that Jaz. worked for a cleaning company for a short while. every other house had a dyson. what a nightmare. you cant even lift them.
  • Got to be a Miele! Never had a good experience with a Dyson and never heard of anyone having a problem-free one!
  • Don't get a vax, box says turbo tool, but it is only for upholstery. Phoned vax to complain about the writing of description. When you read the box it claims all the attachments are tools ie turbo tool, crevice tool, so we asumed. VAx were useless as was the cleaner because we bought it for dog hairs and it didn't pick them up. Took it back to Argos and paid £10 more for a Russell Hobbs pet vac, looks like a cow and it is great. Told argos about the vax description being really bad and they passed it on to H/O.

Sorry, but I would only use a Sebo. Extra long lead, I've had it for years and never had a days problem. It was also 'Which' top vacuum cleaner (though that was some years ago):)

I got a Hetty (Henry but in pink) for £75 using voucher code with Littlewoods and got a few quid Quidco too. It's fab, really strong suction, can use bags or bagless, nice long hose so I can do floor and skirting boards etc all in one quick go. You even get a cute little canvas bag to keep your accessories in.

If you know what your doing (or know someone else who does) simply bypass the switch and turn vacuum on and off at the wall socket.
