A Henry definitely, we used to own a vacuum cleaner shop and thats what we have at home. They are sturdy and very reliable and affordable . A Henry will last longer than 3-4 other brands,so will save you money in the long run. If your really strapped for cash an old fashioned 119 Hoover you can pick them up for about £29-£35, ( authorised hoover dealers usually have reconditioned ones), its a bit harder on the carpets than the Henry as it really does 'beat as it sweeps as it cleans' LOL.

    Good luck!

    Hi

    How about this one:
    http://www.vax.co.uk/shop/catalogue/end-of-line/30th-anniversary-cylinders

I just bought an upright Power 6 Pet hoover from Vax in their clearance section. It was delivered on Thursday and I did a little test with my old Dyson Animal. I used the Dyson 1st, then went back round again and used the Vax. The difference was amazing the Dyson hardly picked anything up but the Vax was full! I couldn't believe how much the Vax picked up off the carpet. Very pleased with it!

I don't know what the above cylinder is like but if it is anything like the upright one it will be great.

We have had our Dyson for 10 years - the only problem is the switch!! The difference is that it is simple to keep ours down with a bit of tape, have been using it like that for about a year!!!!! I believe they do quite long guarantees now too. Planning on getting a "ball" version if mine finally fails totally.

Personally I don't rate dysons. i have had 2 and although they seem to get full of dust they don't pick up fluff or things off the carpet. I am a total miele convert now. Enough suction to feel like you are getting a major workout when hoovering deep pile carpets at top power and makes doing the hard floors a 2 minute job - fabulous!

The only advice I can offer is don't buy a Dyson. They are a triumph of marketing over content.
  • we've had a Dyson DC-07 Animal for 5 years and the whole house vacummed every day to pick up the doghairs. the dco7 has seen us through a whole house renovation including kitchen and bathroom and the only thing ive needed to replace was the filters.
