T Mobile contract and broken Android
Options
Hi
I took out an 18 month contract in January with T-mobile, last week the phone got wet (only rain, I didn't throw it in the sea) and now it only works with the head set on, I didn't otherwise drop or damage it. Fonehouse are telling me I need to insure it in order to have it fixed but surley this is not the case, they should provide a new hand set shouldn't they?

Water damage is expressly exempted from mobile guarantees.
You can try to argue the point but if the moisture sensor has tripped in the phone its uphill work. . .0 -
Nope - they don't have to provide you with a new handset.
The handset that they provided you was working perfectly before you allowed it to get wet - this is your responsibility - not that of either T-Mobile or Fonehouse.
Sorry if that sounds harsh or blunt - not really meant to be - just factual.
You could always ask them to try a repair (T-Mobile) I would give them a call and ask them - but I would be tempted to omit the fact that your handset has been wet! (I don't generally advocate dishonesty)
Once the phone gets to the repair service, they'll soon send it back with a "water damage" note - if indeed this is the case - however you may be lucky.

The phone should also be fit for purpose, and one which stopped working after being used in a rain shower or humid location is not imho, although I would say that if the OP used the phone in a monsoon or heavy thunderstorm and allowed the phone to get a soaking then it is their own fault.0

Thanks for the comments everyone. It was in my pocket and I was in the rain but my ipod survived as did my old nokia. I guess we just accept that new technology isn't up to much? Thanks for the feedback0

Phones shouldn't be used in the open rain. You don't watch your plasma TV in a shower, and your phone should be treated with equal respect. Yes, the majority of handsets are splash resistant (my trusty N95 has even taken a dunking and carried on working, but I get the impression that's a one off). They are sensitive electronic devices and they don't like water!Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Fair do's, just checking everyone's thoughts. The point remains that new stuff dies quicker!0
