Tip: Opera 10.5 & Mobile Broadband

If you're using mobile broadband to access the internet from a laptop, you might want to think about installing the Opera 10.5 browser.
http://www.opera.com/products/
It has a "Turbo Mode" which stops Flash from automatically loading (you can still allow access by right-clicking if need be). The Turbo Mode also loads low-res versions of images, rather than the original large images (again, you can right-click to display the original image, if you like).
Less Flash and lower-res images means less MBs being eaten-up! I guess it works a lot like the OnSpeed program which Martin tipped a while ago:

However, unlike OnSpeed (which costs £24.99), Opera 10.5 is free.
Once installed, just click the big red "O" icon in the top-left corner to set your home page and import bookmarks from your other browser(s).
The Turbo Mode icon, is at the bottom of the screen; it's the icon which looks like a speedometer.

p.s. The option when right-clicking to view images in their full uncompressed quality, is "Reload Image In Full Quality". If an image is already stored in full resolution, in the Opera cache, it'll use the cached version anyway.0

I've never had turbo working on a mobile broadband connection. I tried the earlier version and 10.5 using an unlocked dongle with vodafone and three sims and get a message that opera turbo is not available. As soon as I switch to wifi then the turbo works fine.0

I've used it many times when using mobile broadband on GPRS. No need for it on EDGE/3G.
If you have a relatively fast connection or are on a secure website, it might not work.0 -

Probably because the telco already compress the data0 -
