First Bra?

i took her last night to m & s to get measured, and what a horrid nasty woman we got. when i said i'd brought her to be measured for a first bra, she peered at dd and said, bring her back when she's something to put in one. she was devastated, and i was horrified. i just turned on my heel and walked out. last they'll have of my business i can tell you. after a coffee and a cake, we went to bhs, and they were fabulous, measured her, went through them with her helping to choose some nice ones out, with matching knickers too. she's a 30a, so not even the first size, so m & s can go to hell as far as i'm concerned. thanks for all your advice, we had a chat about bra's and periods and all sorts. didn't find it half as embarressing as i'd been thinking it would be. i just answered her questions openly and honestly, and said if she's any other questions to come to me.£2 saver club 30th sept 198 £2 coins = £396(£350 banked)0

I'm so glad it all turned out well in the end

I can't believe M&S, that's disgusting! I would have had to report her for that, grrrr. To say they were banging on about getting measured correctly the other year as well.
I'm just glad it turned out well. I remember my first bra, it was a 26AA. lol, I was about 12 as well, a skinny little thing. A lots changed since then and am now 21 and a 36E/F. Ha ha ha.

I would have made a complaint to the manager regarding the appalling treatment you had received. The female concerned deserves a severe reprimand at the very least, plus you should receive an apology.
As stated earlier my DD aged 12 is totally flatchested but wanted to be like her friends. She is a 30AA but I certainly wouldn't expect any shop assistant to speak to her or myself in that way. It's all about dealing with a delicate subject for young girls in a sensitive way and I'm sure the female bra-fitters, who are specially trained must be totally aware of this - particularly in a shop such as M&S, where they rate customer service highly.
Make a complaint about it, then maybe she will think twice before treating another young girl in this way.
I'm really pleased you managed to have a good chat with your DD and that you sorted out the bras with BHS. I have 2 DD aged 12 & 14 and I was also dreading the 'period' chat etc when the time arose, however it went brilliantly and I encouraged both girls to ask me anything they needed to at anytime. They also have a talk at school which covers a lot of the subject, but I think it's nice for mum to have a chat about it.0 -
How dreadfull I think I would write and complain to the manager that sort of comment is very destructive to a young person, downright cruel to my mind, this woman should obviously not be working in such a sensative area and deserves to be reprimanded
our M&S have always been great have agreed with me that dd needs a non wired bra when she wanted wired! that cotton was better than nylon when dd wanted frilly lacy one! always very supportive am about to take youngest dd in for first measureing she is only small but seems to be developing now help, was 13 a few months ago she is dfinately a late developer unlike eldest dd!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

i've emailed m & s through the website contact details with a complaint, and am hoping for a response.
she's wearing one of the bra's today, is it normal for her to seemingly be determined to show the straps? lol. its nice to know she's proud of wearing it though. i know i should have complained at the time, but to be honest dd was on the verge of tears, and it would have upset her more i think if i'd made a scene there and then.
many thanks for all your kind thoughts,

Yeah woas, thinking about it, if i was your daughter and you had complained i think it would have made me feel worse, she probably would have wanted to get out of there as fast as possible. Poor girl.

I still can't get over how unprofessional the m&s woman was. grrr. If I went there I would say I wasn't going back, but I don't go there anyways.

When we were young it was not done to show the straps we went to great lengths to hade them but dd 14 always seems to have them showing! when i asked her about it she said everyone shows their bra straps, as if i came from a different planet!!! (planet old woman!) I cant get used to it and definately wont be showing mine!!Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

I read somewhere that developing girls shouldn't have wires in their bra's but I cant remember why
MY eldest was really nervous about going and wouldn't take her t-shirt off. The lovely lady at M & S measured over her t-shirt and really put her at ease. SHe apologised for not having a big choice. fitted it a touch too big so it would last :T
The experience your daugther had was horrible - let us know what response you get from them.
It just goes to show how one or two horrible members of staff can really ruin a reputation of a big store :rolleyes:Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

its not something i can imagine doing. dd says they sell fancy bra straps in Claires you can but on bra's to show off. i find it very odd.£2 saver club 30th sept 198 £2 coins = £396(£350 banked)0 -
Hi
I think that your experience in M&s was terrible and I am glad that you complained. It is fashion for young girls to show bra straps - watch BB and you'll see mind some of them on BB show everything and it is a relief when they put their clothes on! I'll remember M&S when it is my daughters time -I don't remember my mum being involved in buying me any bras and we certainly never had the talk about periods I had to tell her after I started. I am determined that won't happen to my daughter, that first day or so of my periods still gives me nightmares.0
