Buying car for cash - help needed please
Hi
I am coming into a small amount of money soon and am looking at upgrading my car to a family sized estate. I have seen a nice looking SAAB estate which is up for sale at £4895 with 3 months warranty.
I will be be paying cash and wondered how cheeky I can be when it comes to making an offer on the car. I don't wish to be laughed out of the showroom because my offer is too low.
Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks

If you look at similar cars for sale you should get an idea of how good the screen price is. If it is keenly priced then you may be lucky to get anything off, if it is over priced you might be able to get quite a bit off.
If you go in low you can always work upwards, if you go in high and they accept you'll always wonder what you could have got it for!0 -
Start off at £4000 and "wave the notes"

Do try to use a dealer with inspected and warrantied cars though, not some side street garage. It may cost a bit more but you will be much more secure.0

thanks for all the advice. The car is advertised at a Saab dealership and will be thoroughly inspected by them and will come with a 3month warranty and a years mot.
Think will try 4,000 and see what they say and see if I can wangle longer warranty as well.0 -
my view
Dont buy a saab
over priced vauxhall crap with more problems than the vectra its based on0 -
You should get a good deal, not many people are buying Saab's these days.

To be honest they wont be impressed by cash due to the example below.
People pay by card - takes 30 seconds in a warm showroom on a chip and pin. Then they drive away.
People pay by cash. These are the thoughts of your average used car salesman.
- Oh - thats a lot of money I need to count it (with a witness) and then someone else has to count it again to make sure I can add up.
- Oh and its almost 5k erm thats the limit for our money laundering course we went on once so erm I need to phone head office (hope its not a weekend)
- Oh and erm then I need to go to the bank to put it in (after I complete the complicated form cos nowone pays cash any more, and I cant go to the bank on my own for health and safety so Fat Dave will have to come with me and he wont want to go cos he wants to dissapear after work to see that new girl he met last week cos he reckons she is well up for it.
- What a inconsiderate selfish pratt - who deals with cash these days - doesnt he know about debit cards. If he thinks he is getting a discount he can sod off.0 -
Well we now charge customers who pay us in pound notes as the bank charges us. When always tell them to go put it into their bank and come back and pay with their debit card.
Forgot to ask...
Its not a Saab with the 1.9TiD engine is it.............................................?0 -
You'll find all the advice given is correct, dealers simply do not want the issues associated with cash so it gives no real leverage. Besides putting it on your card gives you at least some protection if things go belly up

I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
look at trade in value too and add a mark up. You don't want to be paying £2k above what they bought it for!
