Sim only deal where the Sim doesn't expire?

Hi,

I've searched and searched and can't find an answer for this one. My elderly father wants a mobile phone for emergency use (if the car breaks down, or he slips and falls etc.).

I have a phone for him, but I want a SIM card that will not expire if he doesn't use it for, say, 3 months. Do such things exist?

I don't mind paying up front for a SIM card, and for an initial top up of a tenner or so, but he'd rather not have to keep topping it up to keep it active. At a push, I could get him to make a chargeable call once in a while.

Thanks in advance

3 months isn't a problem. Most networks won't turn a sim off for at least 6 months.

All you need to do is to get him to send one text every 5 months or so. Stick a reminder in the calendar on the phone, or send one from the phone when you see him, that why it'll never get closed.
