Informing me that I need to meet with HR and my manager on Friday. Talking to my manager it seems that redundancy is pretty certain. This has come as a bit of a shock to be honest
.
I have worked for the company for almost 12 years (12 years on the 31st of the month).
My question is how long, legally, does my company need to give me notice of redundancy? Is it 11 or 12?
I have heard that people may be asked to leave on the Friday, can they do this? Is it just a matter of paying the 11 or 12 weeks notice period.
Bit confused about this tbh!
Any help would be much appreciated!

It would be 12 weeks since the 11 weeks notice would make it 12 years service.
If they ask you to leave early 12weeks PILON and 12years service for redudancy payments.
Don't forget outstanding holiday is calculated as if you did work your notice and can be paid.0 -
Yes they can ask you to leave, this happened to others when i was made redundant, but I was on half days hoilday and was called at home to be told that same day, Next day in the post I received a letter confirming it. I'm pretty glad I was not there as many people were in tears. Its a big shock but we knew it was coming, and also glad I did not have to go back there only to meeting about PILON etc. Its soul destroying but you do get over the shock in time. 1 year on iam still searching for a job.0

Thanks for clearing that up, wasn't too sure what the deal was there. Feeling a bit hard done by, I must admit. 12 years and leaving in a few days!
I will have more idea of the package etc on Friday. Do I need to accept the terms right away or can I ask for some time to look things over?0 -
I'm sure someone will come along shortly and give you more advise. I got 1 weeks wage for every year i had worked there, I was only there for 2 years.so the package was not much but better than nothing. I was on garden leave also until it was final, done and dusted.
Wow so weird typing this as it now seems like a faded memory but it was only last year. The only thing I do remember was after the final meeting, I was walking home and I said to myself I have not got a job anymore, i will always remember that that feeling.
Stick around on MSE it will help you alot, i know it helped me in my time of need.
Big Thumbs for MSE and the people here :beer:0 -
it isn't a matter of accepting redundancy. You will be told. You can challenge if it is not done legally, but there is no negotiation here.
but, do come back and post the terms so we can advise if they *are* legal.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
A few things to think about
How may people do the same or very similar job to yourself. ie. how have you been selected, this needs to be fare.
Is it clear the company needs to make redudancies?
Are there other jobs that you could or want to do that could avoid the redundancy?
How many people are effected?
There should be consultation, you need time to think about options,
This can be quite short if you both agree you need to go, if you think of other options the company should consider them(no need to agree though).
There are things you can negotiate, so do come back once the situatoin is clear, If this is a first meetin they should give you the weeked to consider if there are any other options.
Is there any company policies on redundancies always worth checking these so you are better informed.0 -
Yes it does seem a little strange still
- The company seems to be doing redundancy by stealth less than 20 people over 90 days but pretty consistently for the past year or so
- I am in a team with just myself and my manager but in the department as a whole there are a few others who do a similar role but I am definitely the longest serving person doing the role.
-There is now talk that they may ask me to finish my current project at the end of April then go but I would need more information. ie how that would affect my notice period, normally paid in lieu
More information hopefully tomorrow!0 -
Hi there
My interview is today at midday!
Hopefully all should go OK. I had a look at the departmental organisational chart last night and noted that at least one person has exactly the same job title as me.
How does this affect my redundancy situation?
I doesn't seem fair that if we are doing the same job only I am at risk! Shouldn't we be in a pool together for a 'at risk' situation?
Feeling worried now :mad:0 -
How'd it go today?0

but, do come back and post the terms so we can advise if they *are* legal.
Although some of the 'advice' on these forums is usually accurate, to ensure the legality of any action by your employer, I would certainly seek profesional assistance.0
