Would I be better turning off the storage heaters and buying some oil heaters?

Every dwelling has a heat loss. The more you warm it, the bigger the loss. For a small, well insulated dwelling, indoor 21c outdoor 0c, this would never be less than 2kW/hour (but i'm no expert) so for my 80m2 flat, there is a loss of 3.5kW, if I want it warm 10 hours/day, I need to put in 10 x 3.5kW - 35kW at least. I would expect more like 50kW in mid winter, £5 a day. But that is actually, not bad.

The other thing is forgotten when people compare electric heating and gas central heating is the cost of a GCH system.
As I found you wont get much change out of £4k these days for a small system, oh and then there is the servicing and boiler cover that people forget to include in their costings.

Then when the bolier packs in they have no heating and hot water either. Then they post on forums to complain. GCH is only cheaper due to the price of gas, and who invented a system where you heat water to pump round radiators with electricity!

Nah, my £100 heaters are fine thanks. Never need servicing either!
Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T

True, big old dumb boilers are going now, modern ones don't last as long.

Well I get my boiler serviced by gas safe man at £66 quid per year , So thats works out approx 15 pence a day !!how can anyone grumble at that ? plus you dont have to waste money on boiler cover each month,, so thats another saving . Doesnt sound expensive when you look at it like that does it.?
