Plusnet - how can I get 4 months free offer & cashback too ?

Plusnet are offering first 4 months free for sign-ups to 31st March 2010 (use code 4monthsBB) and Martin's current notes say it's possible to get cashback as well. Previously I've used TopCashback who pay £28 for the basic broadband package Plusnet Value (currently £5.99 monthly). In the past I've also used my account name for referrals which gives a further 25p per month referral commission.

I tried to migrate a family member today but to get the 4 months free means you have to use the special Plusnet form identified by Martin but if you use that you can't get the cashback from TopCashback because that uses the ordinary form ? Has Martin got it wrong or is there a way to get both please ?

I have a few family members thinking of changing so it would be great to save the maximum money.

Don't worry, Quidco are offering £43 cashback for Plusnet broadband until the end of the week.

Just signed up for this myself today, tracked at £28 though, so already emailed Quidco and they are aware, so check if you do sign up through them!

  • That's interesting about Quidco - thanks for that - but does anyone please know how to get both the 4 months free use offered by Plusnet as well as a Cashback ?

As I have a few family members thinking of changing, I'd like to do the best for them.
  • Hi, I have tried going via Quidco today...signed up for the £5.99 package, then when it comes to the part where it says 'promo code' input '4monthsBB' in the box - it had just accespted this code from me, so if all goes as it should I have got £5.99/month broadband but got first 4 months free plus £43 cashback via Quidco....fingers crossed!!! Hope this helps!!:j
  • oooh just checked the small print on quidco - it says cashback will be declined if a voucher code is used!!!
  • I think Martin's wrong on this one - you can either get the 4 months free (ie £24) or you can go via TopCashback or Quidco and earn £28 (ie Topcashback) but you can't have both.

Has anyone succeeded to do both please particularly with Topcashback which is my preferred route ?

i was just wondering the same thing myself and was going to start a thread when i saw this!!

it's unlikely we'll get both 4 months free + cashback but you never know...someone might know a sneaky way!

    Hi
I'm new tot he forums, and been receiving the news:money:letter for a while, where i saw this deal listed.

I've just signed up with the 4 months free offer - easy process, first time I've switched providers.

My current provider told me all kinds of things when I asked for the MAC code /key - 'no BB supplier in the Uk will ever jsut supply you with BB' - 'they will take over your phone line anyway' their cancellation fee will be £3,000' and all kinds of such things. After promising me free bodradband for 4 years and all kinds of other hassle with billing this never happening I have no reason to believe anything talk talk say.

    looking forward to plus net
    thanks
  • Be really really careful about signing up to Plusnet - make sure you know what you are signing up to. Their advertising certainly does not match the service (surf as much as you want, 6000 emails, download 500 songs, watch 5 hours iplay = 10GB)

I signed up less than a month ago. Originally thought I'd get the £5.99 monthly subscription deal but that has nearly doubled. Then within a day of broadband being put on I had used half of the 10GB allowance, had used all within 4 days - despite not doing anything like as much as they advertised I could.

Since then have been in dispute with Plusnet who refuse to itemise my bill (beyond saying 97% of usage is the web - duh!), they just keep suggesting that I must be doing something very wrong to work up such usage - but without knowing what it is its very hard to not do whatever is causing this.

This suits Plusnet fine though as they are now charging me £2-6 per day for the pleasure of me getting to use broadband that is supposed to be free after subscription. It will work out by the end of the month to be the most expensive broadband possible.

And I think this will be the case for the next 17 months of the contract as Plusnet refuse to budge or help in any way; they're very happy to take money out of my bank account, but not to find out what the problem is or offer any solutions. Or live up to their advertising.

So think long and hard before using them. Their definition of uploading and downloading seems to be very different from that specified by other providers.
I thought other broadband providers were rip-off merchants but Plusnet are in a league of their own.

The £5.99 price is only applicable for the duration of the contract if you are on a Market 3 exchange. If you are on a Market 1 or 2 exchange then it's 3 months at £5.99 and thereafter £11.99. That is made perfectly clear in the sign up process, so I don't quite understand your comment?
The 10GB limit is also clearly defined on this tariff. If you are using 10GB in 4 days, then you are either doing a lot of streaming or downloading, or someone else is tapping your wireless connection.
PS: the current contracts are 12m not 18m?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

It is easy to check on the Plusnet website if you are in a £5.99 area or not, it is your fault if you did not do so.
The 10GB usage allowance includes up and downloads but there is no charge for usage between midnight and 8 am.
If you can find stand alone broadband for less than Plusnet you are doing very well.
I doubt you are paying £2 to £6 a day for extra usage, you would be switched to the 80GB allowance (still has the free usage times) which is a top price of £19.99 a month. Perhaps you work for another BB provider.
