You won't fail if you stall the car once or twice on your test only a minor. Just make sure you don't let the car role backward. I know what you mean by switching from diesel to petrol, never stalled once in my driving lesson when in the diesel when I was in the petrol I stalled much more.

The same thing happened to me when i did my test about 3 yrs ago
One week before my test, my instructor was in hospital and couldnt cancel my test, Managed to find another instuctor and have one lesson in a new (petrol) car - and didnt do very well with it at the time. Had one hr lesson before my test too!

On the test i stalled a few times, but only got a minor for that! - so try not to panic, just be calm!
I was so worried about stalling ended up on failing on something else, ended up witb 4 minors and 1 major :(

Retook the test a month or so later with original instructor and passed with 3 minors :)

Just be calm and concentrate, you wont fail for stalling!

The examinar in front took hia pupil on the same way, the student stopped on a hill and rolled back and i panicked and took my foot off the clutch and the car stalled and rolled back as I never had the handbreak on

My own fault really, I should have been calmer and maybe I would have handled the situation better!

Oh well, roll on 10 working days!

One of those things, and an easy mistake to make. At least you are a bit more prepared for next time :D

If you are still a bag of nerves, invest in a bottle of rescue remedy as that will help to calm you down

Almost exact same thing happened to me. I'd been warned to wait and move off in a line (the cars are in a line nose to tail) as apparently more than a few people had failed or got off to shockers trying to get out. So I waited and moved off after the person in front. Caught up with her at the junction to the major road as we waited to left. She stalled twice, and on the second time I so nearly rolled back on the slight rise. Feel for you!

  • You need to back away from this for a while and calm down, driving in real life involves all kinds of conditions and scenarios, I am sure you will be fine but tests and driving alone in the real world are very different and if you don't feel ready for dealing with a car in front on a hill, then maybe you should have some more lessons and put your test off for a while.
