I used games shop that had a machine that did it for £3.99 yes expensive but as it something that your daughter wants to treasure then it might be worth paying out.
They did a good job.
I suggest that she makes a back up once she has a decent copy and buy some of those plastic covers that stick on the bottom and stay there.
All the best.

I have used "Scratch Busters" successfully in the past on a very scratched CD-Rom. They also do DVDs etc. They can be found at https://www.scratch-busters.com. Costs £3.50 for a DVD0

just clean the fingerprints off with a damp cloth, before using anything abrasive, or you might make it worse. If this is a once in a lifetime DVD, and you only have one copy, I wouldn't use brasso or toothpaste on it.. (both mildly abrasive)

Little_John wrote:I would try to make a copy of it first. a DVD player usually reads at single speed hence the errors your getting a PC dvd reads at higher speeds and manages to read the problem area many more times to get it to play. you have nothing to loose trying this toothpaste has !!!!!!s disks up for some people has has brasso. the disk restor kits suposedly work but I wouldnt touch it untill I had tried the other option incase it completly wrecks the disk.
well said!!!
I deal with stuff like this a lot at work, and I have to say copying it (with a PC) works ***MOST*** of the time. I would try this before any of the other suggestions....even though I do liek the waky ideas!0
