Can I do anything about a scatched dvd

Options
My daughters precious dvd of her parachute jump has somehow been scratched and it's jumping.
It's a new dvd and I was wondering if there was a way of repairing them.

If anyone knows that would be great

I bought a cd/dvd scratch repair kit from Asda a long time ago. This has worked for me a few times. It was only £6/£7 and comes with full instructions/materials.

    Some tips here.

    Places which offer repair:
    http://www.dvdtohome.co.uk/dvdrepair.htm
    http://www.scratchdoctor.co.uk/

Do it yourself kit at play.com.

I can't vouch for any of the above personally though!

A quick and easy gadget that removes minor scratches, fingerprint and stain marks and dust from the surface of the disc enabling previously unusable discs to once again be used. To use simply place the damaged disc in the unit with the repairer cylinder, turn the handle for around 60 rotations, then change the cylinder to the buffer cylinder and add the repair fluid. Turn the handle once again for around 60 rotations and wipe the disc with the wipes provided. The whole process should take around 2-3 minutes.

Try copying it on a PC with a DVD burner. This often works for minor scratches.

I heard that brasso also works. I would double check this on google to make sure though.

Another alternative is to go to a computer games store or film rental store which is privatley owned and offer then a few pounds and Im sure they will sort you out.

My experience with the toothpaste trick is that it was worse than useless. I know others swear by it though. Personally I would buy a kit - they are useful things to have.

I would try to make a copy of it first. a DVD player usually reads at single speed hence the errors your getting a PC dvd reads at higher speeds and manages to read the problem area many more times to get it to play. you have nothing to loose trying this toothpaste has !!!!!!s disks up for some people has has brasso. the disk restor kits suposedly work but I wouldnt touch it untill I had tried the other option incase it completly wrecks the disk.

Give it a good clean before copying. Wipe carefully from the middle outwards, never around the cd as that is the way the tracks are read.
My OH has his favourite TV show copied to DVD and one disc always jumps but is okay if he cleans it first.
