Best broadband and phone offer?

moved into a house with a BT connection box installed but not activated. At present I have SKY+ HD with Sports, Kids and Lifestlye who is best for the broadband and phoneline.
By the way I did speak to SKY who were not overly helpful, I asked them to activate the phone line but they said they wouldn't pay for this.

Any helpful suggestions?

It sounds like it needs a BT engineer visit - which costs £125 through BT.

You can get it done through other phone providers, such as Plusnet - which charge only £75 - but then you have to take out their broadband and phone package - so you'd be contracted to them for 12 months. It's the same for TalkTalk - but then you'd also have a non-BT telephone line so would be doubly tied to TalkTalk!

If you've got Sky HD - I'd suggest looking to see if you can get Sky LLU broadband in your area as that will be the best broadband for the best price as you've already got the TV. You can check availability for Sky broadband here http://www.chooseisp.co.uk/broadband-providers/sky.asp - If it only returns the Sky 'Connect' packages then you're outside of the Sky LLU area and it might be worth looking for another provider for broadband.

The best Sky broadband package is Sky Unlimited, which only costs £10/mth if you also take a free Sky Talk call plan (you can leave your line rental with BT) and have Sky TV (which you have already).

If you don't use the Internet very much you can also simply get totally free Sky broadband base, which is 2GB limit per month and up to 2Mb speeds - but won't cost you anything extra apart from the line rental as you'll need to get a phoneline to get any broadband (except for Virgin Media).

Did Sky give you any indication of cost to activate the telephone line? It may be cheaper through them than BT even if they aren't willing to waive it.

If the line still has a number attached to it BT will activate it free. You can still get SKY broadband even if your with BT.Worth checking with BT first.
