Car hire in the U.S

I booked today using budget uk. The airlinenetwork/dollar cars cost was £230 for the 2 weeks. Budget was £300 but the budget site has an office in the town we are staying, whereas airlinenetwork/dollar cars can only pick up and drop off from Newark airport, and I didnt fancy landing then immediately driving 20 miles on us highways to the town.
Thanks everybody for your help.0 -

i do know you have to have a full clean licence held for i think 3 years before you can get rental anyway but i thought you had to be over 25. thanks for the info

I am on hol in California at the moment. We hired a car through Hertz for the whole trip. I paid $66 for membership of the AAA (equivalent to the AA) and for that I got a reduced rate with Hertz. However, the CDW insurance was a lot extra but I felt it was a must have.
We have friends in the US who got us our AAA membership but I think it is possible to arrange this directly over the web via https://www.aaa.com You also get unlimited maps, guides and route planners and they have been very helpful.
The aaa membership also gave us an upgraded car.0
