Tv delievery mistake.

Options
Hey,

Last week OH spotted an excellent deal on a TV on a shops website. We went to the shops high street store and ordered one.
Today when the delivery arrived there was 2 tvs. We signed for both as we were worried we had been charged twice, we checked the bank and sure enough we have been charged for both but one has been refunded. So I have 2 tvs and I have paid for one!!!
I have no intention of keeping the extra tv as it is dishonest and stealing in my mind. I went back to our local store and asked what I should do and no one seemed to know including the manager. They have taken my name and address and asked me to return with the delivery note etc and in the mean time they will try and decide what to do.
The CSA said I should have been quiet and just keep it but I cant do that.
If the item is returned do I have any right to ask for a reward for being honest??? The item in question is pretty expensive so I feel I have saved them quite a loss, how would I request this?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

    Of course you do.

Just as I have a right to ask you for £10.00 before telling you how to do it. ;)

Yes, your reward is that warm, fuzzy feeling you get, knowing you've done the right thing.

    Unbelievable.

my friend got 2 dishwashers like this... sold the second one... that was her reward :-)
  • I don't see why I shouldn't ask to be thanked in some way for saving a company a substantial amount of money.
I could "keep quiet" and sell the other tv and make a lot more. Personally I could never do that, the guilt would be unbearable.
Is it wrong to want them to be gratefull for my honesty?

    No, not at all

You wont know though until you ask.

Such as maybe them saying "thank you". That'd work.

Seriously, I can't believe that you are considering keeping something that isn't yours because the company won't pay you for giving it back to them.

In any case, the CSA shouldn't have told you to keep it. They'll realise the mistake soon enough.

This happened to me about 2 years ago with regards a fridge freezer and I didnt sign for the other one and insisted they took it back. I then called the company whilst the delivery people waited and they confirmed I had been charged just the once and thanked me for sending the FF away.

I would however insist they came and got the television off you and not for you to have to take it to the store. Although it was expensive to you remember it will only be a 1/3 of the cost to them.

What? Cost price will probably be about 85% of the selling price. Less if it's a special offer, normally.

So it will be quite valuable to them too

I doubt it when they could write off the cost of the loss as bad debt and not have to pay tax on it.

Whatever the cost, its petty cash to a high street store.
