Either way, store or not. OP has something by mistake, they should contact the shop and let them know and get them to collect it. Not for a "reward", it's not a lost dog, but out of general decency.

I doubt it when they could write off the cost of the loss as bad debt and not have to pay tax on it.

Whatever the cost, its petty cash to a high street store.

The wouldn't pay tax on buying it from the supplier anyway.

Whatever the cost its immoral to keep it and £300 (I'm guessing) is still £300 at the end of the day

I am talking tax on profit in the balance sheet not tax on suppliers.

I am in agreement, keeping the television is wrong.

I had a table & chairs delivered by MFI once, two of the chairs were slightly damaged so I rang them and asked for replacements. They duly arrived and I expected them to take the two damaged ones.

Driver said we only deliver they will arrange collection separately, they never did so I kept them. Nothing ever said.
  • Thanks for all the replys people!
Still waiting for the company to get back to me as I seem to have confused them with this situation.
Just to make it clear I do not expect a reward but I do expect a thank you at the very least. I was asking if I should ask for one. As someone said before if you don't ask you don't get. I have also now emailed the company online and asked them what I should do as no one in the local store seems to want to do anything.

The item in question is £600.

  • Also I could never ever ever keep this tv. It isn't mine and I am not a thief. However if I do end up keeping it then at least I can sell it with a clear mind knowing I tried to do the right thing IYSWIM?

Seriously, I can't believe that you are considering keeping something that isn't yours
Where does the OP say that they're considering keeping the TV? Right from the first post the OP said "I have no intention of keeping this TV as that would be dishonest and stealing in my mind". The OP couldn't stress enough that he/she was not going to keep the TV, and yet you still accuse.

Is this similar to the classic legal case of the unordered gift?

A company puts agift through your door, you are under no obligation to pay for it bt ask them to take it away. If they fail to do so after x weeks then it is yours to keep.

    Source for this someone please.

Of course it's not the same. The OP has placed an order. It has just been duplicated in error. That's not the same as receiving something completely out of the blue.

No, it's similar to the non classic legal case of duplicate order!
