Refused Vanquis Card!!

As the title suggests, i was today turned down for a Vanquis card. i know this is not one of the best cards going, in fact probably one of the worst, but my credit rating from when i was younger is absolutely shocking. most things are being paid off now but for a long time weren't.

I really can't believe that i've been turned down for this card, was laying the last of my hopes on either this card or the Aqua card (i know this is not a great card either but someone i know with a worse credit rating than mine got one a few years ago and now has a credit rating of £1000 thanks to being responsible with the card).

This is all i want to do with it, make small purchases and pay off in full each month in order to rebuild my credit rating.

I feel like i'm the lowest of the low now :o lol for getting refused this card, don't know if i could take a knockback from Aqua as well!!! hmmm think i'm gna have to leave it a while.

has anyone else been refused for this card? (just trying to make meself feel better now haha) or am i down there with the rats????:rotfl:

    Hi,
Do you have any defaults or have you ever been made Bankrupt? That could be part of the reason. Also are you on the electoral role?
  • i know i'm not on the electoral role for my current address, going to get that sorted as soon as, its just one of those things i always forget to do.

as for being bankrupt - no and not sure bout ne defaults or anything, tried signing up for the free trial on experian (think it was that one) to check my credit report for free but they couldn't confirm my identity, think its cos i'm not on the electoral roll. read a post a few days back but that someone who signed up for the free months trial and cancelled within the month was still charged full whack!! so maybe its a good thing they didn't accept me!! lol

The big thing is not being on the electoral roll. This no doubt had a huge bearing on declining you. Why not try Capital one or Barclaycard because they offer high risk cards. However wait until you are on the electorial roll.

I got refused a Vanquis card too if that makes you feel any better?! But I got accepted 2 weeks later for a Capital One card....no deposit required. Wierd?! Try Capital One is my advice....although I also got refused by them 6 months previous?!

I found that lenders would not even look at you without being on the electoral role - how do they really know who you are?

Write to Vanquis, mention that you are aware that you are not on the electoral roll, offer to supply bills/statements/ID to prove that you live at your address, and ask them if there's any other info you can provide (e.g. payslips to prove income). Explain that you are trying to build a credit rating and that vanquis was recommended to you as being the best card for doing this. Keep it polite and send it recorded.

I didn't get as far as trying Vanquis but Aqua turned me down, afterwards I tohught it was because I apeared credit inactive, which I was so rather than wait awhile I applied to Capital One straight away, they not only gave me a card without fuss they gave me a £1000 limit which I wasn't expecting, card is now set up to pay full balance every month, shall use for petrol I think as its the one thing I won't be tempted to over spend on. That wish to spend spend spend has never completely gone away!!

  • Maybe I should start a new thread with this query but I'm getting turned down by all mentioned above because I've been living with someone for the last year and my electoral registration is still at my parents (you never know!). However, she has kindly offered to go for another card (her rating is excellent) and I would be no 2. Would that improve my rating? Could I still be declined or is she wholly responsible but I get the points? Etc...

Thanks for any replies on this.
