We seem to have some fairly big electrical problem in our house. The house is around 150 years old but was rewired in the past and has a fairly new consumer unit. Actually, voltage testers complying with HSE GS38 are 'best'. These should be 'proved' on a known voltage source before and after use.

To the OP; this will be a fairly straightforward job for an electrician, and shouldn't be too expensive - especially if you can make the chases and carry out any general labouring work yourself.
