the problem with this I found was they are low on your tummy.. which is crippling if you end up with a section.. and they don't stay up properly on a saggy deflated tummy.. whereas disp. do.

I also wore the disp ones in labour after waters had broken.. they could just be torn off for delivery.

I thought the disposable pant's were a waste of time, like the others say just buy BIG CHEAP pants, and you'll need a truck load of maternity towels and breast pads - whether breast feeding or not!
For me the top n tail was a waste and the baby bath was a must. I also bought a nappy wrapper thing - like a bin but just for nappys, total waste of money - stick with the Nappy bags.
But my best buy was a musical teddy - baby makes a noise and teddy sings lullabys to comfort baby - my two loved these and my youngest has only just given his up, and he's 5 now!

    Congratulations

    Hi there,

I am in a very similar situation to you (13 weeks and 4 days pregnant :j ) and planning what to get for baby 'cub'. I have found the 'Which?' website (you might be familar with the Which? magazine) to be very good for providing independent reviews of prams, pushchairs and car seats. www.which.co.uk You do have to pay to subscribe to see the reviews and 'best buys' but i think you can sometimes get a subscription for eg £1 for a month.

The current best buy for travel systems is the Britax vigour 3+, which I think will suit us very well. I think we have similar needs to you - lots of walks, including taking the dog out on rough ground. Britax have relaunched the Vigour 3+ for 2010 and it is now called the B-Smart 3.

I hope that helps. Please PM me if you'd like some more information :-) :)

    HTH,

    Ali x

This is the funniest thing I have read on MSE for ages :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

There are some brilliant threads in the arms, about whether or not you should wear pants to bed, which resulted in the 'free your foofs' facebook group :rotfl:was a while ago though, maybe it got deleted, if it's still there and you didn't see it at the time it's worth a look.

Sorry OP, way off topic there :o

I bought a very expensive moses basket which baby hated and would scream blue murder if put anywhere near it, much preferred sleeping in pram, car seat, bouncy chair, arms, changing mat, play mat on floor, pretty much anywhere but the damn moses basket!!

Face cloths & muslins are good but you really dont need them if you are planning on using washable nappies buy a few of the toweling square ones they are brill for spills and chuck ups and you can use them as a nappies too i found they were alot more absorbent than the muslin squares as well.

As for clothes as others have said dont go buying loads its a waste sleepsuits are the main staple for the first few weeks and those can be bought very cheap from supermarkets. if you want to get a few outfits then try ebay or freecycle babies get very little wear out of the first couple of sizes so you can pick immaculate stuff for a few quid :-)

You really don't need to use baby bubble baths or washes their skin is so fragile.

I got told plain water is fine to wash babies skin with?

Sudocreme and vaseline as mentioned are useful I found having a tube of metanium for nappy rash was always handy to have in the house somewhere too, dyes everything yellow but I found it was a godsend. Kamilliosan (sp) for soor boobs is good too, equally cold cabbage helps also :D
I'd go for baby shampoo just to use every now and again to keep cradle cap at bay, wouldn't use much else on a babys skin though, maybe a bit of aqueous cream if they are a little dry, olive oils a good one for that too.

never had a baby bath, just use the big bath or a regular bowl if they just needed a face neck and hand wash.

Bubs slept either on me or my hubby in the day (I know terrible parents ;) ) or put to bed upstairs in his cot. Slept in a moses basket till about 3 months in our room. never had a baby monitor either but that depends on your house I guess and how much you can hear from upstairs etc.

Have a changing mat but rearely use it :s Unless its messy.

Found his musical windup bear and his blankie a godsend he loves them at bedtime! :D hehe oh and his growbag! he's forever wriggling :D

If you are planning on buying nappys for the 1st month, dont buy too many size 1's you'll be shocked how quick they grow out of them, my sisters little girl went straight into them at 10lbs 6 at birth!! :o

Sicky cloths are handy too flannels, tea towels, clean nappys (inserts from bambino mio's) or muslims are always handy to have close too.. Nothing like been sicked on 10 times a day :D hehe
