sky 20mb

Hi all, simple one really. A month or so ago I signed up to sky's 20 mb broadband package having already been on their base package. I was told on the phone my line is capable of supporting between 10 and 20 mb but I'm getting less than 7. Is this acceptabe?. I've tried the usual things around the house to speed it up but can't improve on this

Their website says: 'Up to 20Mb download (depending on location)'

Download speeds are dependent on the distance from your telephone exchange.

If you go to this site and put in your details it'll tell you which exchange you're connected to and the distance.

What are the 'usual things around the house' you have done?
Have you connected direct to the BT test socket behind the master socket faceplate and retested your line speed from there?
Have you tested for noise on the line? Dial 17070, option 2, BT Quiet Test?
Have you got known good ADSL filters on all active extensions (including your Sky box)?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Sky has Dynamic Line Management meaning that their will be a training period of around 10 - 15 days though some times it can take up to 72 hours to activate this process though it may not activate at all

During this time DON'T reboot, reset or turn off the router as this will be seen as a fault and cap speed.

if you can show your connection stats read this:
    http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/router-stats/14441-sky-router-stats-speed-noise-attenuation-explained.html

I could work out what u might get and check any problems,

    Things to do:
1: Ensure all phone points have filters
2: Try connecting to the test socket and check you connection stats see above, if thier better sort out your internal wiring
3: Fit a filtered face plate ADSL Nation
4: Try not to use extensions try to use the master socket as much as possible
5: Don't rely on internet speed checkers most are unreliable though this is an ok one thinkbroadbandl
6: run a BT quite line check for interference on the line
7: move electrical cables away from your phone cables inside and out you house

Hope this has got you thinking what to check
