dual core intel cpu - misprice?

Seems overpriced to me for a 2.6GHz CPU, when you can get a AMD64 X2 Dual Core 3700+ for £117.
The price of these chips are falling daily, so not really grabbit bargains for very long.0 -
conroe chips are out this week i believe, and blow everything else away without being super expensive.0

Don't like Intel chips anyway, and it's good to hear that Dell are going to be using AMD chips
Its not a MHz rating, its not even a speed rating, its a pathetic attempt by AMD to con gullible people by putting a random higher number on.
Can't be bothered diving into ANOTHER AMD vs Intel war, needless to say though that you are wrong about this chip - it will blow away an x2 3700+ for much less money and be far more reliable.
Although, this isn't a grabbit. This chip is generally retailed at about this price (You'll see big reshuffles of pricing across the Intel/AMD ranges due to the Core2 release)DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

I used to be bothered about the AMD vs Intel thing when I had my home built Athlon XP3200. Now have a Dell Dimension 5100 with a Pentium 4 3.4G and must say I'm well impressed with it.
I would expect that a dual core 2.66GHz processor for £70ish is a great bargain if you want to build yourself a good quality reasonably fast machine, even if you don't want to overclock it.You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0 -
I was also impressed with the Dell 5150 3.0GHz P4 - very quiet and I like the Hyperthreading so much compared to my single CPU AMD PCs that I wondered whether a dual-core upgrade was possible using either the 804 or the 820.
I know that overclocking is out of the question with the Dell, and that the 5150 can be bought with a dual core now, but the Dell forums give mixed messages about whether one of the above CPUs will work - some people have tried them and get errors on boot up.
So has anyone here successfully upgraded a P4 5150 with one of the dual cores from Microdirect?0 -
I've got a 5100 (and 5150) under my desk at work, with an 805d being delivered later today for another machine. I'll try plugging it to check if it works or not.
I've been backwards and forwards many times between Intel/AMD ever since I 'upgraded' my Intel 486 DX2 50 with an AMD 486 DX2 66 (which was a mistake - the AMD chips were FAR slower even back then...) and I can honestly say the only chips that have actually impressed me where the Intels.DONE: Great North Run 09! Thanks Shaun, checking out a 5150/5100 for me would be a great help, if its not too much bother for you. I upgraded the BIOS on my 5150 from A00 to version A05 over the weekend using Dell's simple Windows installer. The BIOS said it enabled support for newer CPUs but doesn't say which ones.0
