Rear hit not much damage.

My rover was hit today while turning left at very low speed.
I turned and hit brakes hard as 2 ambulances coming head on and I have no where to go. Was hit from behind by another driver. he admitted liability at the time but could not produce the D/L.
Damage to rear bumper is cosmetic and the metal bit around the tow-eye is bit wrapped. Also, what structural damage would be there THAN meets the eye?
I have contacted the insurance.........
shall keep you folks posted.

Get in touch with the other parties insurer and ask where they are having it repaired and when are they delivering your hire car.
The plastic bumper has rebounded to where it roughly was but is the bootfloor deformed, are the rear quarters straight are there any other welds "popped".
You pay your insurance like everyone else so no-one got hurt, no-one should take it personally but let the bodywork experts properly assess the damage.

If it's a Rover be prepared for the possibility that it could be a write off

Why should I bother? Its my insurer's job to do, isn't it?
The national accident ppl shall be contacting me to access the damage.
    Thanks

And how should I negitiate insurers to repair than W/ off. Also, if w/ off, what my comprehensive policy would provide the return?
    Thanks

When you say National Accident, do you mean National Accident Line?

Has someone offered you a hire car yet and are you claiming for injuries

I had a similar accident when I stopped at a roundabout as there was traffic coming around it and some donut rear-ended me.

I wasn't chuffed as although the damage looked light (dent underneath rear bumper) I was only 21 and I was worried that my insurance would sky-rocket.

Luckily the other guy was OK about it, gave me his details and asked me to send him the bill as he said it looked like light damage so wouldn't cost much to fix.

Took the car to a garage a couple of days later and was surprised to find that in fact the accident had caused damage to the chassis and it would cost around £1k to repair - this being back in 1991!

The other driver refused to pay it saying I was trying to scam him and so I let my insurance company pursue it which they did successfully, getting the damage assessed before giving the go ahead for the repair. I am pleased to say the other guy was insured and it was he who lost his NCD and not I.

So, I'd definitely get it checked out!

As a side note I still suffer to this day with (mild) whiplash but didn't realise that was what I'd got as a result of the accident and so didn't claim for it. Have you got a stiff neck?

    :(

How old is the car and what value ?

A little bump will mean most R(over)'s are written off these days. Best place for them right enough.

That's a bit of a daft question these days.

To give you a clue if there is chassis damage without getting under the car, look at the boot lid and the doors on either side - if the gaps are different widths on each side it is probably a write off. If not, you still need it looked at underneath to check the damage!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
