Am i correct to say that calls to 0870 numbers (not sure about 0845 ones) from a BT landline are free?
My calls go through Orange so my question is, is there a way of getting the 0870 calls free through Orange?.
Do i have to put some form of code in before i dial or can i somehow bypass my Orange account and go through BT to get them free?.

On BT, it depends on your call package.
On, Orange, no.0 -

They are not free. However they are now part of your inclusive calls so if you have a call package for evening & weekend or anytime calls then you won't pay any extra for the call.
The code to hop back onto BT is 1280 - some CPS operators like Sky have now stopped the use of 1280. I'm not sure if Orange has done this or not.0 -
You can always check to see if there is a geographic number equivalent:

Orange use wholesale calls now instead of cps just like sky/talk talk etc so the 1280 overide back to BT wont work if calls are with Orange.(unless they are via live box)0 -
Thanks everyone for clearing that up.0

Sky
Talk Talk
Orange
AOL
However, only Sky has been up-front enough to allow BT to publish the fact. The others have kept very quiet indeed - I wonder why?Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

No.
Rain water you collect in a barrel in your garden is free.
If you meet their T&Cs and keep within your contract and pay them then they will not charge you (if you don't abuse the service).0
