Please can someone help me? we have squirels in our garage and I want them out!
I love animals and don't want to hurt them but they seem to have taken up residence in my UPVC fascia box area under the garage roof,(that's where they sound like they are) but they are getting in through the roof.We have done a lot of research on the internet and we can't seem to find out for sure if they have had babies yet?
Two of them have been seen going in with grass and nest making stuff, and I see one of them coming and going.
So far we have tried :
Loud music (Heavy metal!)
White noise
Strong smells
We have put chicken wire around the rest of the garage ( to make it more difficult for them to have multiple access areas, BUT we have been LEFT OPEN the area we have seen them come and go from, so that they can leave.
I am at my wits end and the garage ( which houses my deep freeze full of food) is a no go area for me ( the sound of them scrabbling urgh!) and I don't know what to do.
I do not want to harm them, just encourage them to go and sooner rather than later!
We know they can be trapped ( but it is illegal to re-locate them even if you capture them in a humane trap??)
Any wildlife experts know if they will have had babies yet?
What can we do that will get them out but that won't hurt them?
( We didn't have this problem before our old dog died but they seem to know she isn't here anymore)
Help please?!!!

Thanks for the reply but we have already seen this during our research and the music didn't work, the light didn't work because they are in sort of the boxed area of the UPVC guttering which is darkish and this is how/why we can't find out/see if they have had babies yet. (It's not accessible to us unless we start to dismantle the garage guttering/roof, not an option at this stage.)0 -
from this link:

I found this: (I have copied a lot in as I found it interesting!)
SQUIRRELS AND THEIR YOUNG
Squirrels in the UK will often produce two litters of kittens each year:
SPRING (February/March)
SUMMER (July/August)
Whilst there may be 1-6 young, the average is about 3. It stands to reason that most babies or youngsters are found in March/April and August/September. The youngster may have fallen from its nest, be caught by a cat, dog or other predator or simply may have strayed too far and lost their way home. If your cat brings one home, it may be wise to keep an eye on the cat to make sure it doesn’t immediately return to try to find more young squirrels. Squirrels don’t always nest in trees; sometimes preferring lofts, sheds or other buildings.
Sometimes squirrel nests are brought to earth when trees are felled or lopped. Obviously great care should be taken not to disturb nests during the months shown above, especially in oak and other broadleaf trees. We were once presented with a complete nest found by a young lad on his paper round. The babies were only days old, no larger than a child’s finger. Completely blind and bald, they are known at this age as ‘pinkies’ and are extremely vulnerable.0 -

We moved some blankets in our garage last year and found a huge stash of hazel nuts hidden there! It would appear that the squirrel has been coming in through the cat flap and putting them there! That would explain why the cat refused to use the cat flap maybe. We didnt have any more coming in after we moved the blankets and nuts though!I might be crazy but I'm not stupid....0
